  2. ORGANISATION OF THE CURRICULUM  There are two halves of year 7…  All tutor groups are mixed ability and are all of similar overall ability.  RS, History, Geography, ICT, Drama, PDC, Music, Science, Art, Dance are taught in tutor groups.

  3. OTHER SUBJECTS…….  Maths – Pupils are set at half term in October.  English – mixed ability (but not in tutor groups)  Technology – Groups are rearranged and are smaller than usual due to practical nature of subject. Groups rotate around activities on a half termly basis.  PE – each half of the year is split into 4 classes. Groupings are generally mixed ability and can be mixed sex or single sex depending on the activity,

  4. MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES  Students will study French,German and Spanish “on a carousel”.  MFL subjects are an academic discipline in their own right, not a preparation for a holiday.  We are not teaching:  Romansch for the Swiss Alps Or “Gibberish” for anyone going to the USA

  5. SO WHAT IS DIFFERENT?  Movement  Groupings  Subjects  Teachers  Opportunities  Size

  6. KEY STAGE 3 – YEAR 7 AND 8  The organisation of year 8 is broadly similar to year 7.  There is a curriculum map for each half term in year 7 and 8

  7. OPTIONS Students get the opportunity to specialise in subjects in preparation for exam courses, so they select options from a wide range of choices. These decisions will be made in the Spring Term of year 9. Not all combinations of choices may be possible. There will be constraining factors such as numbers/staffing.

  8. OPTION BLOCKS – OPEN CHOOSE 2 SUBJECTS AND A RESERVE OPTION Art and Design Child Development Computing German Drama History Information Technology Graphic Products Music Resistant Materials Physical Education Food Technology Religious Studies Textiles French Spanish Geography Classical Civilisations Dance Sport (GCSE unless stated)

  9. PATHWAYS Students will be guided as to the most appropriate pathway for them

  10. GCSE  Terminal examinations in year 11 rather than coursework or controlled assessment  Grades 1  9 rather than A*-G (9 will be the highest)

  11. HOUSES House points awarded for Sports day, Interform, Reward points, Departmental competitons e.g spelling challenges etc House points update on the website
