Kuna School District

 Focus of Visit:

The Kuna District has been working to implement MTSS on many levels. Attention to Tier 1 instruction with the help of our METIS coaching was last year’s main emphasis. We are using data reports, i.e. MAP and AIMSweb reports and Quadrant Analysis to better determine who should receive intervention and what intervention should include to fill the gaps. The Middle School brought on one-to-one Chrome Books with Khan Academy for the whole school. Other areas of emphasis for both schools have been components of formative assessment, writing instruction, and development of

  • intervention. The Kuna District has developed an extensive on-line system of

procedures that are utilized district-wide. This year our work has been on refining and improving intervention. Tier 1 continues to be also refined with the introduction of the Lucy Calkins writing approach and PD in formative assessment eliciting evidence and feedback. With this observation we hope to gain observational data on levels of implementation and use of learning targets and eliciting evidence as well as general observations of Tier II

  • interventions. We hope to discuss these observations as well as math

intervention and materials

Objective of Visit: Post Fall District MTSS Goals 2014-15 Goal 1: Increase proficiency of all district schools in implementing district-developed MTSS guidelines as measured by district-adapted fidelity rubric by June 2015. Developing and maintaining a MTSS District Website with forms and process. Providing staff development for all district school RTI teams. Surveying district MTSS teams to determine future professional development needs. Implementing standard screening and benchmarking processes across the district. Analyzing data from district wide benchmarking. Goal 2: Identify and implement Tier II Interventions and increase proficiency of Tier II implementation in project schools (Mullan Trail- math and PFMS-behavior) as well as district schools as measured by criteria as measured MTSS fidelity rubric by June 2015. Identify and implement diagnostic assessments. Provide training for parapros. Identify and help provide training for District RTI teams on progress monitoring, Tier II interventions and other Tier II areas. Help facilitate access to intervention materials needed across all schools. Goal 3: Determine most effective Tier I math instructional practices and materials in Mullan Trail elementary school and district schools as measured by district developed common assessments by June 2015. Monitor core math instruction through walk-throughs. Collect and analyze district wide common math assessment data.
