PATH OF HISTORY & BOMB SHELTER TOUR

• In the summer of 2011, during the renovation of the iconic pool

side Bamboo bar, the long-sealed bomb shelter (built in 1965) was found.

• In May 2012 “The bomb shelter” reopened and became the

focal point for the hotel’s Path of History programme for visitors to re-discover many memories and experiences from this momentous part of the hotels history. It is important to all involved, that while accessible, The bomb shelter and it’s history are treated respectfully, therefore access will be limited to staff and house guests.

• This Bomb shelter provided shelter for all residents in the hotel,

including celebrities Joan Baez (the hotel having secured a partial recording of her singing in the shelter) and Jane Fonda during the peak bombings periods of Hanoi in 1972 and 1973.
