6C Certification

  • Sept. 2012 - first 6C certification
  • Requirements developed by 6CTOC
  • Focus on interoperability
  • Certifications
  • 18 tags
  • 5 readers

Testing Approach

Conform ance (tag, reader) Field Testing Tolling Agencies Applied IOP (Perform ance) Baseline IOP Environm ental

OmniAir Certification

  • Both radio and commands are tested
  • Designed to ensure that tag and reader pairs

can transition successfully from one state to another and to validate memory data.

  • No need to conduct plugfests …testing using

referenced devices

  • Read/write/verify at speeds up to

85mp in ORT scenario

  • Varying tag orientation, tag heights

and tag placement

  • Focus on Interoperability

New Test: Tag Performance Testing

  • Standard based GS1 EPCglobal “Tag Performance

Parameters Test Methods v1.1.2”

  • Test included in ver. 2.0 of OmniAir 6C Certification

Parameters measured:

  • At frequency of 915 MHz and
  • rientations at (-30,-60,-90,0,

30,60,90 deg.)

  • Read Range
  • Sensitivity

Read Range Min AVG Max meters Tag A 5.5 7.27 11.9 7.8 Tag B 7.15 9.68 10.55 6.4 Tag C 9.2 9.89 10.3 10.4

Lab Test Lane Test

Read Range (meters)

This is the first effort in tolling to measure tag performance in a standard way!

Optimal results that can be used for comparisons

Simulated Toll Testing (STT) …available soon

  • Complimentary test system to traditional field testing
  • Controlled test environment
  • Results are consistent, repeatable and correlate to field tests
  • Speeds 5mph - 100mph+
  • Simulates car, SUV in ORT scenario
  • Support for multi-protocol readers (6C, TDM, SeGO)
  • STT software also supports field testing
  • Can be used for tag/reader benchmark performance testing

Currently, it supports one lane, but it will be extended to 3 lanes to allow testing of scenarios such as lane straddling. STT is a sophisticated indoor test system that lets tolling agencies conduct tests that were previously conducted at a test track at much lower costs!

6C News

State of California Approves Regulations Modernizing Statewide Interoperable Electronic Tolling System Regulations Will Establish 6C Toll Collection on All California Toll Roads by January 1st, 2019 Washington, D.C. – The State of California’s Office of Administrative Law has issued a notice of approval of regulatory changes paving the way for the adoption of the ISO 18000-63 (more commonly known as “6C”) electronic toll collection protocol

  • n all toll roads throughout the state. The approval by the Office of Administrative

Law creates an effective date for the new regulatory changes to take place on January 1st, 2018 and establishes 6C as the State of California’s official electronic toll collection protocol on January 1st, 2019. The regulations will require a complete phase out of the existing Title 21 protocol by January 1st, 2024.

Tolling Opportunities and Trends

Programs:

  • V2.0 of 6C Certification program in Q1-2, 2018
  • MOU with 6CTOC
  • Re-certifications
  • IAG Certification Program
  • International outreach
  • Certifying for non-US markets…this is already a reality!
  • Road User Charging

Trends:

  • More performance testing in OmniAir certification programs
  • More lab testing and less field testing to reduce testing costs
  • More rigorous certification criteria
  • Multi-protocol tags and readers testing as a way to achieve interoperability
