  2. A Little Bit About Me I grew up in Lincoln County and graduated from UNC-Charlotte with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. I live in Lincolnton with my husband, daughter, and cat.

  3. What is Health Science? Health Science is a pathway in the CTE (Career and Technical Education) program for students interested in health care. Foundations of Health Science, Health Science I, and Health Science II, are courses taught at NLHS. Health Science is continued at the School of Technology with Nursing Fundamentals - a course in which you can become a Certified Nursing Assistant... All before graduating high school!

  4. Foundations of Health Science Formerly known as Health Team Relations... This course is designed to assist potential health care workers in their role and function as health team members. Topics include medical terminology, the history of health care, healthcare agencies, ethics, legal responsibilities, health careers, holistic health, health care trends, cultural awareness, communication, medical math, leadership, and career decision making.

  5. Health Science I This course is developed to focus on human anatomy, physiology and human body diseases and disorders, and recognizing and responding to first aid emergencies. Students will learn about healthcare careers within the context of human body systems.

  6. Health Science II This course is designed to help students expand their understanding of financing and trends of healthcare agencies, fundamentals of wellness, legal and ethical issues, concepts of teamwork, and effective communication. You will have a substitute teacher present in the classroom on the days that you are there, but I will be facilitating the class remotely via Canvas, recorded lessons, classroom Zooms, etc. While this is not how I’d like to teach, it’s necessary right now with the hopes that I can be back soon. Lots of things look different at NLHS, but I know that we will all make the best of it!

  10. Supplies Needed All of your work will be completed online via Canvas this year. You’ll need a device and access to the internet. I do recommend you have a notebook on hand for note taking. Sharpen a pencil and grab a highlighter, and that’s all you should need!
