Transition Process • Smooth transition from Primary to Secondary. • The transition process started in Year 5 • Visits to Primary Schools from Golborne High School • Regular primary liaison in Science, Maths, Spanish, English, PE. • Targeted intervention work • LOGOS meetings • Sports events, PE sessions and help with Sports Day • Open Evening. Transition Process • Same process as every year just a different format • Phone calls to Year 6 teachers during school closure • Constant communication with headteachers at primary school • Subject transition books – for home learning and during the holidays • New Intake Parents’ Evening online • HOH presentations – 13 th July • Tutor phone calls • HOH and SENCO phone calls. • Small scale summer school in line with government guidance YO YOUR CHILD HILDREN A ALR LREADY KN KNOW U US W WELL!   5. Intervention Support Who? Tutors, Heads of House, Pastoral team, Intervention Managers, SENCO, Executive Team, SLT, Teachers. Why? Transition, Progress, gap analysis, behaviour points, medical, attendance, key exam period Needs based can include one-to-one mentoring, group What? mentoring, Literacy and Numeracy intervention, in-class support, behaviour support, monitoring report, in-class therapy.   7. A Safe Place • Zero tolerance of bullying. Strict anti – bullying policy. • High expectations • Prefects. • Personal Tutors. • House System. • I-Class. • Key pastoral support staff. • Year 7 Bonding Day • Intervention Managers. • Pastoral Support Leaders. • Pupils who have medical needs have a personal healthcare plan. • Staff in school cannot administer medication unless it is stated on the individual healthcare plan. • Online safety – mobile phones must be switched off and out of sight, smart watches and Apple watches are not allowed. Attendance • High expectations –97% and above attendance and punctuality. • Absence notes in the back of logbooks. • Medical and dental notes are needed. • Absence calls - we now ask parents to contact us every day to keep us updated. • Text system. • Rigorous Punctuality Policy. • Pastoral Support Leaders to support with attendance. • No holidays in term time are authorised and will impact on reward trips. • Termly attendance and punctuality awards. • House competitions. • Pupil Services is the point of contact for all lates and attendance issues. Uniform • High standards. • Only school shoes which are displayed on the website. • No piercings or jewellery. • No makeup. • Golborne Uniform can only be purchased from Slaters and Impressions. • Skirts should be on or below the knee. • No coloured hair accessories, brightly coloured hair, shaved hair or tram lines. • Name all uniform. • Correct equipment – pens, pencils, rulers as a minimum. No fountain pens. • No headphones for mobile phones. • Mobile phones must be switched off and out of sight at all times. • All pupils need a watch. • If in doubt all information about the uniform is on the website. A Healthy School • Eco Schools - The aim is to educate and empower young people to make positive decisions and become change makers for an environmentally sustainable world. • Eco Schools’ Award – currently we have Bronze and Silver Award . • The Eco Council - The Community Wetland project, community work, plastic bottle green house, grow fruit and vegetables, encouraging us to recycle, control litter, looking after the wildlife, encourage healthy eating • Healthy Schools’ Award • Canteen provides a choice of hot meals, sandwiches, salads and there is also a take away option available from a designated food point. • Year 7 eat lunches in the canteen and there are areas provided for packed lunches. • Breakfast Club from 8.00am • Healthy body, healthy mind – We educate our pupils to eat well, take part in regular exercise and get plenty of sleep • Fizzy drinks including energy drinks are not allowed in school • Working towards School Games Mark Gold Award • School Nurse: available once a week during lunchtime for drop-in sessions Miss Hugill - Associate Assistant Headteacher

  13. “Reading for betterment.” • Language for Learning. • Research led school: partner in the North West focus group. • Active classroom practice with trained staff to ensure a whole school approach to reading. • GHS Library. • Dedicated reading time in the English curriculum and whole school. • Pastoral curriculum is linked with the academic curriculum.   14. Pupils Achieve and are Rewarded Throughout the academic year pupils are awarded achievement points in a range of categories, such as good work or effort, organization and participation. Achievements points and good attendance add up to exciting rewards including: • Cinema trip • Bowling trip • Laser Quest • Alton Towers trip • Chester Zoo trip • Year 11 Prom • Termly prize draws Miss Norwood – Assistant Headteacher

  15. Pupils Achieve and are Rewarded LOR ORIC IC LORIC is a reward system which recognizes pupils’ personal development within and outside of school. Music Tuition • At Golborne we offer instrumental and vocal tuition which is provided by Wigan Music Service. • 15 or 30 minute lessons are available. • Year 7 will be invited to sign up for instrumental lessons during September • Lessons take place in school time • For Year 7, lessons will commence after October half-term • Strict protocols for visiting teachers Mrs Hayes – Associate Assistant Headteacher
