  2. What t is is The Acti tive Resilience Well llbeing Service? A partnership between Active Resilience & HEADSSUP. We offer an online portal which empowers organisations to enable employees to monitor and track their mental resilience, physical health and overall wellbeing and evidence improvements

  3. Mental Health Statistics Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year. In 2017 there were 6,213 suicides in the UK and Republic of Ireland. The Im Impact for Organisations 57% of days absent from work are due to mental ill health. With over 70 million workdays lost each year due to problems with mental health, recent estimates put the overall cost (including retention and recruitment) at £30 billion annually for UK employers.

  4. Why Invest in the Mental Health and Wellbeing of Employees? Wellbeing provides employees with what they need to navigate the ups and downs we all go through in our professional and private lives, while enabling them to emotionally, socially, physically flourish and intellectually thrive. Findings from research indicate that workplaces implementing wellbeing programmes can see benefits such as: Improved employee productivity Decrease in sick days and absences from work Less staff turnover Smaller quantity of accidents and injuries Greater employee satisfaction

  5. What is The AR Portal? An online service which measures mental health and wellbeing and suggests strategies ( based around the 5 ways to wellbeing ) which help employees monitor, track and maintain their mental and physical health and overall wellbeing.

  6. What is HEADSSUP? A programme which enhances emotional intelligence through teaching about primary and secondary emotions. Recipients are empowered to emotionally regulate using the strategies which are taught. This contributes to the maintenance of mental resilience. HEADSSUP is an acronym for our Primary Emotions. Happy, Emotion, Angry, Disgusted, Sad & Scared.

  8. How we Selected our Content In line with recommendations from the Centre for Wellbeing at The New Economics Foundation the portal promotes strategies around the 5 ways to wellbeing which improve mental health. The teaching of emotional intelligence (EI) which is advocated by The World Economic Forum has been incorporated into the portal. EI is vital for mental health and is a greater predictor of success in almost every field of work than either prior work experience or standard IQ score, we value the importance of developing this in employees. As mental health is a continuum employees are supported to track and monitor their personal mental and physical health journey. They will develop individually through engaging in strategies recommended through the portal. In turn they are healthier both mentally and physically, they are more resilient and they acquire positive attitudes.

  9. What do Employees have Access to? • Each employee is provided with a personal account on our portal, enabling their mental health and wellbeing to be monitored, using our assessment scale ( this can be likened to a Fitbit for the mind ). • With a basic level of EI we can all take a more proactive approach to our mental health, happiness and wellbeing. Employees upskill in this area through completion of HEADSSUP via the portal. • Reports are provided which display the distance travelled in relation to mental health for each employee, as a result of engaging with any of our recommended strategies. • The content is based around the 5 ways to wellbeing ( adopted by MIND the mental health charity and by the NHS ). Employees are advised of a range of strategies which relate to being active, connecting with others, learning new skills, giving back to others and being mindful.

  10. What do Employees have Access to? • Through use of our portal, organisations are also provided with the facility to evidence and measure the impact of their current mental health and wellbeing initiatives. • Essentially HR departments are empowered to monitor and evaluate both the mental and physical health and wellbeing journey of their employees from a supportive perspective. • Employees will develop individually through acting upon the advice accessed through the portal.

  11. The Power of Physical Activity • Physical activity positively affects mental health and even reduces the symptoms of anxiety and mild/moderate depression. Therefore, this is promoted as a dominant coping mechanism for the maintenance of mental health. • A BMI tracker is installed in the portal allowing employees to also measure the positive effects on physical health of engaging in recommended activities. This links to education on nutrition as well as mood and food. • A mental health scale is used to measure against, and employees are advised of strategies they can use in order to achieve both mental and physical health.

  12. Th The AR Portal Each organisation will have members of staff who will become AR Portal Administrators. This simple role will include generating user accounts for each employee – a full PDF administrators guide will be provided.

  13. The AR Portal Within the portal, employees can: • Complete a mental health / mental resilience scale questionnaire • Calculate their Body Mass Index (BMI) • Record their recent behaviour against the 5 ways to wellbeing • For each of the 5 ways to wellbeing, set goals to improve their experiences • Access and complete the HEADSSUP EI programme

  15. Employee Wellbeing Profile Score Card The AR Portal provides evidence of improvements in the areas of mental and physical health ( as major components of overall wellbeing ) as result of engaging with the recommended strategies. A score card can be saved and printed at desired intervals to provide evidence of the distance travelled in these areas as a result of the interventions.
