 Transition to DCIS • Administrators and Counselors went to visit 4th graders at each elementary site • 4 th graders came to visit DCIS for tours, entertainment and lunch (week of April 30th) • New Parent Orientation Night- May 1, 2018 • “Meet the Teacher/Schedule Pick-up Day” August 13 th (tentative) 
 6 th grade- 8:30-11:00am 
 5 th grade- 12:30-3:00pm • Back-to-School Night-1 st or 2 nd full week of school (tentative August 23rd) • Counselors:

GENERAL INFORMATION/SAFETY • 2018-2019 will be our 7 th school year for DCIS • Approx. 1000 students • Approx. 75 staff members • 4 core teams per grade level • Buzzer System for doors • School SafeID system • Photo ID required for student check-out or eating lunch • Visitor sticker REQUIRED throughout the building • FEMA building for tornado evacuation • Required Safety Drills • School Resource Officer • School Nurse • Watch-Dog Dad Program

  4. DCIS 5 th and 6 th Grade Teams/Electives • Each grade level has 4 teams of teachers(A, B, C and D Halls) 
 • Each student will rotate through 5 core teachers

 • Each class period is 55 minutes long 
 • 5 th grade students rotate through specials with their 
 Homeroom class: PE, Health, Music, Art, Technology, Spanish, STEM 
 • 6 th grade students choose 4 electives for the year, one being Presentational Technology. 6 th Grade Band is all year.

Lunch • 6 th Grade Boys 10:55-11:15 • 6 th Grade Girls 11:20-11:40 • 5 th Grade Boys 11:45-12:05 • 5 th Grade Girls 12:10-12:30 ********************************************* *NOTE: *Parents/Grandparents are welcome to Late Start eat with their child.  Bus Riders

 *Arrival* Car Riders • Car-riders get dropped off in the front of the building. Our car line splits into 2 lines. • Students need to be ready to get out of the car as soon as you pull into the parking lot….backpacks and hugs! • We unload 10-12 cars at a time. Students need to get out of the car when we wave them out. • When leaving the parking lot, you must turn RIGHT • Our motto is “Pull Forward!” 


  10. Car Riders 
 *Dismissal* Car Riders • Car-riders get picked up in the front of the building.   11. Lockers-Backpacks-Totes • All students need to either bring a backpack or a tote. Totes are preferred due to easy access to supplies. 
 • 5 th Grade students share a locker as it is used more for a “cubby” to keep their coat and bag. 
 5 th graders do NOT need a lock! 
 • 6 th Grade students are assigned individual lockers and DO need to bring a lock!

 • We have a Spirit Assembly 
 each 9-weeks • Students can be recognized for character, hard work, 
 leadership, improvement and/or academics • Each team picks a top boy and top girl to be recognized • Students who receive an award are given an Elevation Gift Card • Entertainment: high school band, choir, show choir, DCIS band and choir, games, special guests

  15. DCIS Field Trips • 5 th Grade-State Fair and Camp Classen • 6 th Grade-OKC Thunder Education Day • 6 th Grade Art Zoo Trip • FCA Field Trips • Honor Chorus • Washington, DC trip with Mrs. Stephenson • NYC Trip with Mrs. Gull • 6 th Grade Band Field Trip
