Inspiring our children to dream big, be extraordinary and change the world.
Mrs Dalziel, Headteacher Miss Flint, Deputy Headteacher
Rumour has it that…
How are you feeling?
The reality is…
We have 240 children on roll, so it is about the same size as Merry Hill
It’s true – we have high standards and expectations of behaviour. We have 4 rules:
1.
Be safe
2.
Work hard and allow others to work
3.
Be kind to one-another
4.
Look after property and our environment There are educational a consequences for those who do not follow our rules
Ashfield
Rumour has it that…
How are you feeling?
The reality is…
We do – we don’t have 1 TA linked to
1 class –TAs support according to the needs of the children – this might look different when the children start back in the Autumn due to social distancing rules
We have morning and lunch break but
we do not have a playtime in the afternoon.
Staff do not let the big children take
staggered so years 3 and 4 can play without the older children
Assistants to help in the juniors
play
Rumour has it that…
How are you feeling?
The reality is…
In normal times we have an open door policy and parents are welcomed. Currently we are not allowing any visitors into the building. We do have parents who come in to help, but not in their own child’s class. We are always particularly grateful for help with school trips
Just like Merry hill, we have lovely teachers and TAs, we have an attractive school environment, we teach English and maths and… all the other subjects in the national curriculum. The children will simply be learning in a different building and in a bit more of a grown up way.
Merry Hill
Children will not be able to visit before they start,
but a short film showing them the school will be available on the website shortly and the Year 3 teachers are preparing blogs to introduce themselves to the children.
The Merry Hill teachers are in the process of
transferring all the academic, social and emotional information about the children.
SEND coordinators (Mrs Summers from Merry Hill
and Mrs Smyth) have met to pass on SEN information and further meetings are planned before the summer break.
We hold telephone appointments with you.
Holidays during term time We don’t authorise them unless in exceptional
circumstances - celebrations taking place abroad do not constitute exceptional circumstances
Medical matters Where possible, please avoid making appointments in
school hours. We do not authorise absence for medical appointments on Friday afternoons.
Music lessons
Currently the Hertfordshire Music Service is providing remote
lessons only for existing pupils –we will let you know when the situation changes.
Year 3 learn the ocarina– we do have a set that has been sterilised,
but considering the current situation, I would recommend, for your
4 hole ocarinas costing around £12 are available on-line through a
number of sellers including Amazon – here is a link to one of the sellers https://www.ocarina.co.uk/shop/plastic-oc/362-4- hole-oc
School Comms We use the same communications system as Merry Hill – please make
sure you inform us of any changes e.g. mobile phone number or email address
Clubs After school are run by The Elms Sport in Schools. They are aiming to
start running these again in September. Parents book places directly through them. https://www.elmssportinschools.co.uk/home
School Meals Our kitchen is run by Caterlink. Currently the kitchen is closed and
those children attending are bringing packed lunches from home. More information will be sent to parents when we know when the kitchen can be re-opened.
Our children are very proud of their Ashfield uniforms and we believe that uniform is important to of feeling of community and the purposeful way we conduct ourselves in school. But…
Please hold fire on buying uniform just yet!
Currently our children are not in uniform because I am expecting children to come in freshly laundered clothes every day to help reduce the spread
Autumn Term and I do not want parents to spend money unnecessarily, only for children to have grown out of their uniform by the time they get to wear it. Children should wear comfortable clothes that are easily laundered – jogging bottoms, T shirts and sweat shirts are ideal. They should wear trainers –this avoids changing shoes for outdoor PE and games. They also need a warm coat and a waterproof (if the coat is not rainproof).

DJ Uniforms in Bushey Village (by the pedestrian lights)
provides a uniform service:

It is a good service but it comes at a premium!
Do name ALL items of clothing
Do make children responsible for looking after their
belongings
Do ensure PE kit is in school every day Don’t wear jewellery, except a watch and stud earrings
Don’t wear nail varnish
LOST PROPERTY –we don’t have a lost property box. We expect our children to look after their property and we ensure that all named items are returned to children.

The Parent Focus Group is a group of parent volunteers of children in each year group who work collaboratively alongside other key groups in the school community including the Governors, SLT, representatives of the school council and the parent body in order to improve the educational experience for all pupils. The priorities for the group are:
To improve communication between school and home To provide a parent perspective and parent voice in the
review and development of school policies and practices
To challenge and support the school in its work
We will need representatives from our year 3 parents, but will send you more information once the children are back in the Autumn term.

every child flourishes both socially and

our families are confident that their children are
happy and safe; and that our teachers are ambitious for their children in whatever paths they wish to take
