General Information:

MAP will be offered at each junior high campus in 2016-2017.

MAP is a 3 year program offered only at the junior high level. MAP offers:

  • Accelerated (Math/Science) and Integrated (Humanities)Curriculums
  • Consists of two Segments:

Math/Science Humanities (Language Arts and Social Studies)

MAP Math Course Progression

Please note that MAP students must qualify to advance to each math course in the progression by successfully completing each MAP math course in addition to passing the STAAR or EOC for each particular class.

MAP Humanities

English Language Arts Skills Integration:

Soft Skills Expository Controlling Idea/Thesis Research Fiction Poetry Persuasive Drama Literary Nonfiction Expository Organization Genre Connections Media Literacy

World Cultures:

Throughout the year students will make their way around the world and study each continent’ s geography, culture, economics, government, and relationship with the United States.

Please note: Humanities is

not an accelerated course.

Magnet Academic Program Qualifications Math/Science

Round 1 test was administered the week of February 15th, 2016.

Round 2 test was administered the week of February 29th, 2016. Round 3 test was administered the week of March 21st, 2016.

Magnet Academic Program Humanities Qualifications

Round 1 Humanities test was administered the week of February 15th, 2016. Round 2 Humanities test was given the week of April 11th, 2016.

MAP Teacher Selection

Humanities 6: one teacher certified to teach both ELA and Social Studies; will need to be able to strengthen students writing and research skills, while also incorporating historical/informational readings (novels, excerpts, articles, etc.) into the classroom. Math 6: teacher should be proficient to teach 8th grade math as this is the STAAR test students take at the end of the year. Science 6: teacher should be proficient to teach a combination of 6th and 8th grade science TEKS as they will cover a large portion of the 8th grade TEKS in addition to the 6th grade TEKS.
