We invite the public to share their ideas, concerns and any other items they would like to be considered throughout the design of this walkway. WHAT IS A PUBLIC WATERFRONT WALKWAY? Public waterfront walkways are linear public corridors that offer recreational opportunities, commuter connections, public art, shared public spaces and natural amenities and can connect historic sites, neighborhoods, and retail areas. Currently pedestrian only pathway Riparian property rights Limited space Archaeological impacts Geotechnical conditions (slope stability, etc.) With a Mobility Bicycle Rollerblade/ Sightsee/ Enjoy Public Spaces Walk/Run Device Skateboard Nature Impacts to existing trees (Accessible) Connections and accessibility to the pathway Stewart Avenue intersection Opportunities to keep in mind: Provision of adequate space for multi-use pathway Connection from Departure Bay Beach to BC Ferries Terminal Potential to make improvements to Kinsmen Park and improve accessibility and connection to Departure Bay Centennial Park Beach access Boardwalk to minimize environmental impacts and avoid other constraints Incorporation of Green Shores design Overall wayfinding improvements and community connectivity Learn more at: www.nanaimo.ca/goto/WaterfrontWalkway
