The negative health effects of these substances are too often overlooked. In the end, PEDs will ruin your career and forever label you a cheater. During this course you will learn about PEDs, PE methods and dangerous supplements. You will learn about the WBC/VADA Clean Sport Initiative, and what is expected of you as a top WBC rated

admitted to anabolic steroid—this doesn’t include those who unknowingly took these substances. • 8. Supplements—(Smitty/Victor) lack of regulation/how do you know which

supplements are safe (post VADA supplement statement) (1 minute) “Many over-the-counter supplements contain prohibited substances and are

substances including vitamins, energy drinks, creatine, protein powder/shakes and products sold in most health food stores and on the Internet. As a result, what you’re buying or what has been recommended by your trainer, conditioning expert or health food store may contain more than what’s listed on the label. Many of these ingredients can actually can result in a positive doping violation. Those containing stimulants can even result in death. Consuming any dietary supplements may be risky. Use caution when consuming them, don’t trust the label alone and ask questions. You or your trainer may contact them any time to ask if any supplement or medication you’ve purchased or were prescribed maybe prohibited or contain prohibited substances. The WBC/VADA CSI works with Drug Free Sport’s Resource Exchange Center (REC). http://www.drugfreesport.com/rec/ Password VADA12.” (E-learning folks to illustrate this simply while voice-over going)

  • 9. Drag and drop questions regarding supplements (1 minute) (Smitty/Victor

Voiceover): “Let’s see what you’ve learned about supplements. Drag and move each item to either the gym bag or the trash can: Monster Energy, protein powder, bottle of one-a-day vitamins, certified supplement, Bulk-Up.” “CONGRATULATIONS!” (We’ll defer to Jeremy and his team as which items to use and include something that says “methyhenenamine”).

  • 10. What

are anabolic steroids? Forms do they come in: dermal/oral/injected(Smitty/Victor) (2 minutes) “Anabolic Androgenic Steroids- variants of the male sex hormone testosterone. (We want this displayed verbatim on a slide)

  • 12. DANGERS OF SUPPLEMENTS (Smitty/Victor): “Supplements, besides many

containing prohibited substances, may cause the same serious medical problems described above. In fact deaths have been linked to energy drinks and

  • supplements. Many are manufactured in unsanitary conditions contaminated with

heavy metals like lead, zinc, mercury, or aluminum. The same applies to performance enhancing drugs you buy on the Internet or get off of so-called friends at the gym. Just because something says it has been declared safe or without prohibited substances, doesn’t mean it’s true. Ask questions BEFORE buying or taking any medication or supplement.” Show example pictures of prohibited substances—I’ll email a couple. (E-learning folks can display an illustration of this with the voiceover)

  • 13. Question: “If your doctor says this is ok to use, is it? (yes/no)(Smitty/Victor) (30

your health and performance that are not prohibited. Alcohol is a clear example. Alcohol can affect your balance, coordination, memory and predispose you to bleeding—especially during a fight or sparring. It can have long-term effects long after drinking.” (E-learning illustration re alcohol)

  • 17. Commission overseeing your fight may also test you & have a different prohibited list

slide-5
