Try Out Period Dec 7 - 16

We strongly encourage Clubs/Teams to allow athletes to attend tryouts for multiple Clubs/Teams (if they wish) and not pressure them to commit immediately following a tryout. Athletes are free to try out for multiple teams and are NOT

  • bligated to commit or sign Individual Registration forms

Referees

  • Volleyball Manitoba, Manitoba Volleyball Officials Association &

Westman Offic ials Association are always looking to expand the pool of Certified Referees

  • If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a Certified

Referee, clinics are held in Sep & Oct each year.

  • If you are interested in having MVOA Referees work your event,

please contact Ed Toews at edtoews@mvoa.ca or Bev Workman (Brandon) at bev_workman@hotmail.com

  • It is recommended and encouraged by Volleyball Manitoba that all

Sanctioned Events utilize Certified Referees, as this provides Athletes and Coaches with valuable experience interacting with Certified Referees while also providing referees with a developmental experience in anticipation of Provincial and National Championships

Respect in Sport

Sport Manitoba believes in being proactive in ensuring sport in our province is safe and welcoming for all participants. Respect in Sport helps to promote those values through a simple and convenient free on-line training course for coaches and sport leaders. It is designed as a tool to assist coaches in identifying and dealing with abuse, neglect, harassment, and bullying in sport. Respect in Sport enables coaches to deal with legal and moral responsibilities, making them less vulnerable and more confident in dealing with sensitive

  • issues. A risk management tool, Respect in Sport helps sport organizations

reduce liability. As a mandatory requirement, all coaches identified with a Provincial Sport Organization are required to take the course. Without this Certification a Coach will not be allowed to participate in any Sanctioned Event. In addition, Respect in Sport certification needs to be completed every 5 years. Therefore, all coaches who took the online course prior to 2014, will require to complete it again to remain compliant with this requirement. To complete the certification please follow this link for further information: http://www.sportmanitoba.ca/coaching/respect-sport

Age Category Rankings

  • The Volleyball Manitoba Provincial Rankings will be maintained by

several Ranking Committees and Sub-Committees which report to the Indoor Competitions Committee

  • If you are interested in sitting on a Ranking Committee for an Age

Category, please contact Anthony Roberts at volleyball.pd@sportmanitoba.ca

  • Provincial Rankings will be based on Sanctioned Event Results,

slide-24
SLIDE 24

Club Sanctioned Tournaments

  • Many tournaments for all age classes are organized and operated by individual
  • clubs. This provides the vast portion of competition for athletes and the efforts of

clubs made to run these tournaments is appreciated by all Club Volleyball stakeholders.

  • In an effort however to ensure consistency, adequate insurance and use results in

the weekly ranking system being implemented in this club season, clubs are asked to sanction their Tournaments with Volleyball Manitoba.

  • The cost to sanction your tournament is $50 plus GST.
  • Sanctioned Tournament results are to be submitted by the first business day

following the competition – to allow for inclusion in weekly rankings

  • Note also that teams must participate in a minimum of two sanctioned

Events/Tournaments (in the age category said team intends to participate in at Provincials) in order to participate in the Provincial Championships. This will allow for adequate preparation and allow rankings to be established.

  • Volleyball Manitoba strongly encourages that all Sanctioned Tournaments utilize

Certified Referees.

  • Scoresheets, rotation cards along with scoreflips and balls are accessible, if
  • available. Requests need to be made at minimum 2 weeks in advance.

VC Championships 2020 and Beyond

Starting in 2019, Volleyball Canada will be maintaining the 14U category as a regional championship (West, East & Atlantic) but the 15U – 18U categories will all be hosted as a true national event. VC will be looking to combine or ‘cluster’ age groups under one roof in an effort to offer the best competition setting for participating teams. Volleyball Manitoba bid unsuccessfully for a 2019 event, and is again look at pursuing an event in 2021/2022 (14U). In 2020, the VC Nationals will again be a Festival event, as they move to a new two-year cycle instead of the current three year cycle.

Each year many clubs have more athletes tryout than they have teams available and Volleyball Manitoba receives a number of inquiries from players who would like to play volleyball beyond the school season but who are not involved in club volleyball for a variety of reasons. Starting n January 2020, Volleyball Manitoba will again offer athletes the opportunity to join Team VM for a season of training as well as the opportunity to compete in tournaments and Provincial Championships. Athletes can register as individuals and will be assigned to a team of up to 12 players at 13U – 16U age categories. Team VM is not a club and is not intended to compete with club programs. The Team VM program is a framework to get more players involved by providing the planning, facilities and equipment necessary to run a team.
