Background Summary

Big Picture

• Patients with respiratory distress need to have their breathing monitored
• Typically done by monitoring carbon dioxide exhalation

Zoom In

• MRI is another common procedure,
• Produces strong magnetic fields which requires specialized equipment

Gap

• Need a MRI compatible monitor
• Current product very expensive (~$15,000)
• Monitors oxygen inhalation
• Real time remote monitoring

Current State

Toronto-based research institute has an MRI compatible CO2 monitor on the market. But:

• It is expensive! ($15,000)
• It is not very accurate

So we want to make something better and less expensive.
