Site Supervisor Information

Site Supervisor Handbook

Site Supervisor Requirements

• Be properly certified by their respective state accrediting agency
• Hold at least a masters degree in their professional field
• Have at least three years of experience in his or her field of

specialization

• Be currently working in the candidate’s area(s) of specialization

What does a Site Supervisor Do?

• Critiques recordings (not required, but allowed)
• Provides an average of one hour per week of individual supervision
• Rates student performance on Mid-Term and Final Evaluation Form
• Provides place and resources for work
• Helps to secure clients/students
• Trains to conduct day to day activities at the site

Direct Contact Hours

Direct contact hours include any activity in which the intern or practicum student is meeting face- to-face with students.

• individual counseling
• group counseling
• classroom guidance lessons
• sitting in on the site supervisor’s

individual or group sessions is considered direct contact hours.

Indirect Contact Hours

Indirect contact hours include any activity related to counseling functions that does not include face-to-face meeting with students.

• planning sessions
• consultation
• attending in-services
• attending conferences
• working with parents or teachers

Practicum Requirements

• 100 clock hours of clinical experience under supervision.
• At least 40 clock hours of direct service with clients/students,

including

• Individual & small group.
• Opportunity to become involved with a variety of professional

activities in addition to direct service (e.g., record keeping, assessment, in-service, staff meetings)

• One hour per week of onsite supervision

Practicum Requirements

• One and a half hours per week of university supervision
• Audio/video tapes or live supervision of counseling
• Submission of counseling hours
• Midterm & Final evaluation by Site Supervisor

Internship Requirements

• 600 clock hours of supervised clinical experience
• At least 240 clock hours of direct service with clients/students,

including

• Individual & small group
• Opportunity to become involved with a variety of professional

activities in addition to direct service (e.g., record keeping, assessment, in-service, staff meetings)

• One hour per week of onsite supervision

Internship Requirements

• One and a half hours per week of university supervision

University Supervisor

• Provides weekly supervision
• Provides a grade of experience with

Site Supervisor input

• Maintain contact with Site

Supervisor to collaborate on the growth and progress of the student.

• Be available to handle issues with

which the Site Supervisor needs assistance.

Student Liability Insurance

All students must be members of the American School Counseling Association or American Counseling Association. This provides them with liability insurance.

Internship Agreement

• Once a site and site supervisor are approved, an internship

agreements will be signed and placed on file at the University.

• At that time, the intern may begin accruing hours.

Student will complete hours log regularly to ensure that all activities are

• documented. Site

supervisors will verify and sign-off on these hours to ensure that students are accurately documenting their clock hours.

Site Supervisor will complete a Mid-Term Evaluation

Site Supervisor will complete a Final Evaluation
