Site Supervisor Requirements

  • Be properly certified by their respective state accrediting agency
  • Hold at least a masters degree in their professional field
  • Have at least three years of experience in his or her field of

specialization

  • Be currently working in the candidate’s area(s) of specialization

What does a Site Supervisor Do?

  • Critiques recordings (not required, but allowed)
  • Provides an average of one hour per week of individual supervision
  • Rates student performance on Mid-Term and Final Evaluation Form
  • Provides place and resources for work
  • Helps to secure clients/students
  • Trains to conduct day to day activities at the site

Direct Contact Hours

Direct contact hours include any activity in which the intern or practicum student is meeting face- to-face with students.

  • individual counseling
  • group counseling
  • classroom guidance lessons
  • sitting in on the site supervisor’s

individual or group sessions is considered direct contact hours.

Indirect Contact Hours

Indirect contact hours include any activity related to counseling functions that does not include face-to-face meeting with students.

Practicum Requirements

  • 100 clock hours of clinical experience under supervision.
  • At least 40 clock hours of direct service with clients/students,

including

  • Individual & small group.
  • Opportunity to become involved with a variety of professional

activities in addition to direct service (e.g., record keeping, assessment, in-service, staff meetings)

  • One hour per week of onsite supervision

  • Audio/video tapes or live supervision of counseling
  • Submission of counseling hours
  • Midterm & Final evaluation by Site Supervisor

Student Liability Insurance

All students must be members of the American School Counseling Association or American Counseling Association. This provides them with liability insurance.

Internship Agreement

  • Once a site and site supervisor are approved, an internship

agreements will be signed and placed on file at the University.

  • At that time, the intern may begin accruing hours.

Student will complete hours log regularly to ensure that all activities are

supervisors will verify and sign-off on these hours to ensure that students are accurately documenting their clock hours.
