History of Microsoft Cloud use at Thomas • Started in 2014 • Cloud-first strategy • First; Which Cloud? • AWS, Google, Azure, Others • Why Azure for Thomas? Cost effective, large, trusted vendor, secure, Microsoft infrastructure, works with most popular school, home, business systems, free support • Office 365 and Azure accounts created • Dirsync (now AD Connect) and ADFS for SSO • for seamless credential use between on-prem and various cloud systems
Microsoft Cloud Use at Thomas • Office 365 Web apps (dozens) and downloaded Office software • Exchange 2013  Exchange Online • Backups to Azure using DPM vs. tapes • OneDrive for personal folders • WebDAV drive letter mapping (unsupported, o: drive) • now even better with file stubs in Win10 1709) • SharePoint/OneDrive for College-wide shared folders (s: drive) • Skype for Business – video, voice, text, presence (tagging) • Virtual network/hosts for our Hyper-V VMs (site recovery)
