THE MIZZOU ADVANTAGE

One Health/One Medicine Food for the Future Sustainable Energy Media of the Future

  • MU 2013 research expenditures, $235+

million

  • Association of American Universities
  • Faculty annually publish 1,400+ books and

articles

  • Four areas of interdisciplinary expertise
  • Land-grant institution
  • Economic and entrepreneurial focus

TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER

  • $1.0+ billion in sales of products featuring MU technology in

the last 10 years.

  • 200+ Active technology license and option agreements
  • 82 New invention disclosures in FY2013
  • 54 New provisional patent applications filed in FY2013
  • 22 New patent issuances received in FY2013

  • ANGP Inc. seeks to commercialize low pressure natural gas on-

board storage based on adsorbed natural gas technology developed by the University of Missouri.

  • ANGP Inc. utilizes nanoporous carbon technology that allows

natural gas to be stored in non-cylindrical, conforming tanks for the automotive industry.

  • Low pressure ANG technology enables storage tank design that

conforms to the vehicle without sacrificing trunk space in passenger cars or cargo bed space in light duty trucks. The fueling economics and vehicle conformability of low pressure ANG will result in the accelerated adaptation of natural gas vehicles.

IMPEDX DIAGNOSTICS

  • ImpeDx Diagnostics seeks to commercialize a novel system for

detecting bacteria in blood culture specimens for use in clinical

  • laboratories. The device significantly reduces the time to detect

viable bacteria in blood cultures and thus promises to improve

  • utcomes and reduce healthcare costs in the management of

sepsis.

  • ImpeDx Diagnostics employs an alternative approach to detect

viable pathogens in blood culture. This technology measures the rise in bulk capacitance of bacterial cell walls as the bacteria replicate providing accurate results well ahead of current technology.

PROACTIVE SENSE

  • Proactive Sense LLC is commercializing a portfolio of technologies

aimed at detecting and monitoring acute health events in the elder care population improving long term care and quality of life.

  • The technologies consist of multiple, hardware based, non-

wearable sensors and software that records and analyzes sensor data.

  • This technology is the result of years of federally funded research

and has been successfully deployed in MU’s own Tiger Place, elder care facility.

THERMAVANT TECHNOLOGIES

  • ThermAvant Technologies, LLC is a leading developer and provider
  • f super-thermally conductive materials made by embedding the

Oscillating Heat Pipe (OHP) technology inside conventional

  • materials. Using novel design and proprietary manufacturing

methods, ThermAvant currently sells OHP-embedded micro-chip heat spreaders, electronics heat sinks, and industrial heat recovery systems.

  • ThermAvant’s reliable, affordable process to convert conventional

materials into super-thermal conductors with embedded oscillating heat pipes (OHPs) applies to a wide array of industries facing thermal constraints from mobile devices to power generation.
