How did we start?

  • NW Coast Perinatal Network in place since 2014
  • Scoping document outlining perinatal MH baseline position already

drafted

  • 3 Cheshire and Merseyside NHS MH providers already working

collaboratively to develop MH chapter of STP

  • Brought clinicians together from each Trust to define pathways

What did we do?

  • Identified clinical lead and support enabling successful bid and project

management

  • Ensured strong commitment from strategic staff in each MH Trust
  • Ensured good communication between all system partners
  • Worked with people with ‘Lived Experience’
  • Drafted bid for one service - 3 MH teams to cover C&M geography (10 CCGs)

What did we achieve?

  • National funding award of £3.3m to develop a new community specialist

perinatal service for C&M

  • Developed service identity and recruited staff in conjunction with people with

lived experience

  • Momentum to deliver significant service improvement and improved outcomes

for women and their families

  • Earlier diagnosis and intervention - women are supported to recover and fewer

women and their infants suffer avoidable harm
