Pharmacy Practice Experience – FORMATTING and CONTENT

  • Consistent descriptive formatting of each IPPE

– Title (IPPE vs APPE, community service vs. community practice vs. hospital systems) – Location (formal), which Walgreens/where – Position (1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year student – include preceptor name and title) – Generally, most recent at the top

  • Do not assume outside reviewers know about our IPPE

requirements –describe! Label!

– “Government Relations Advocacy for Student Pharmacists (GRASP) Program” instead of “GRASP”

  • Make both your experience and yourself shine here

Pharmacy Practice Experiences – Descriptions

  • Enhanced description of the experience itself and the

evidence you link to it (things you can’t do in a CV, you might not remember all of this info to verbally give employers) paragraph/3-5 sentences

– Many portfolios too lean

  • What you did at the site (# hours, # patients) and focus on

the skill set developed that will prepare you for your career goal

– What was unique? Y

  • u may need to ask your preceptors
  • ASK YOUR CAREER MENTOR FOR OTHER IDEAS (e.g.

community practice mentor may say “transitions of care” so you want to describe any TOC activities you did in any IPPE

Links/Uploads/Evidence

  • Links should be something you want potential employer to

look at and show your work (e.g. SOAP notes, drug info question, CMR, presentation, poster, PK note, business plan, grant proposal)

– Generally save reflections for assessment portfolio

  • Don’t need photo of intern license or professional
  • rganization induction
  • Photos are more for assessment portfolio, don’t tell

employer much about your work

  • Best links are actual files/documents you created (i.e.

attach poster document > picture of you w/ poster; picture

  • f you showing your pamphlet to patient PLUS your

pamphlet )

Links/Uploads/Evidence

  • What you add will be up for potential scrutiny

(i.e. CMR at a community pharmacy for patient with DM and CAD, on low-dose

  • atorvastatin. Reviewer may question that and

ask you about it if it’s not in your document)

Professional Introduction

– Who I am : Description of student (first/last name, year in curriculum, name of school attending) – Where I am going: Their career goal (what they plan to do after graduation) – How I am going to get there: What are their plans to achieve their career goal (path toward goal) – The career goal and plans should complement the career statement in portfolio [this was not the case for many students- they should address this – either fix career statement or professional introduction to match] – Should be succinct: 1-2 minutes max. Only include 1 or 2 past experiences that helped them progress toward their career goal. [some students had a long professional introduction that included too many details; they can leave some details out to stimulate conversation]
