Draft Revised 7/24/20
The Ashwaubenon School District is working with the Brown County Health Department, local medical providers and area school districts as we make decisions about reopening. “As a health care organization, there is nothing more important to us than the health and safety of our communities during this challenging time. But at Prevea, our care for the safety of children and staff returning to school this year, goes beyond the medical expertise we are able to provide. We too are moms, dads, sons, daughters and caregivers who want to be sure our own loved ones are safe upon their return to school. Our guidance to school districts such as Ashwaubenon during this time is not
heart as well. We want everyone to feel the same sense of comfort and security that we would want for
– Dr. Ashok Rai, President and CEO, Prevea Health “Nothing is more important than safeguarding the health of our children, educators and staff, and it will take a true community approach to ensure we get it right when school is back in session this fall. The key to these efforts is a genuine spirit of cooperation among schools, health systems, public health and others coming together to share knowledge and elevate our collective understanding of how to safely move forward. Bellin Health is proud to work with the Ashwaubenon School District to chart a safe path for learning for the 2020 school year.”
➢ The Ashwaubenon School District has every intent to bring all students back safely for in-person instruction following the school calendar. ➢ The current guidelines for safety and social distancing are driving the need for In-Person learning with precautions at grades 4K-5, and a Physically Distanced Learning approach for students in grades 6-12 for the first quarter of the 2020-21 school year. In the event these guidelines are adjusted, WE WILL CHANGE THE PLAN with the goal of having ALL students in classes five days a week. ➢ The following is the Ashwaubenon School District plan as of July 22, 2020. We will continue to keep you updated as new information becomes available or the plan changes. ➢ Thank you for your patience as we continue to work to keep our students and staff safe. DRAFT
➢ SAFETY: Student and staff safety is important. Mitigating risk is our focus as we realize there is no way to totally eliminate risk to staff and students. ○ Our plan will reflect guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Brown County Health Department, local medical providers, and Department of Public Instruction (DPI). ➢ SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL WELLBEING: Planning for and caring for the social, emotional and mental health needs of students and staff. ➢ FLEXIBILITY: Our plan will allow for a fluid response keeping in mind staff, students’, and parents’ capacity as well as ASD financial resources and available space. ➢ INSTRUCTION: Our Plan currently reflects an in-person learning environment for 4K-5 students, a physically-distanced learning approach for students in grades 6-12, and a K-12 virtual learning model in the event that students and families are not comfortable returning to school or schools can not remain open. This plan is subject to change as guidelines are adjusted. DRAFT
➢ In May we had 1,476 parents respond to our survey. Participation was evenly distributed across grade levels and schools within the district. ➢ 82.4% were comfortable or very comfortable sending students to school in fall. ➢ In regards to styles of learning, 72% were comfortable with in-person schooling, 51% were comfortable with a physically distanced learning model (some in-person, some remote), and 23% were comfortable with Remote Learning.
DRAFT
➢ 4K-Grade 5: All Students will return to school on September 1, 2020, five days a week in-person with safety precautions and physical distancing. Online/virtual learning would go into effect due to the number of positive COVID-19 cases in the community or individual schools. Click here for the more detailed 4K-5 ASD Jaguar Jump Back Plan ➢ Grades 6-12: Currently, students will return to a physically distanced learning model of instruction
due to space limitations. Students will be divided into two cohort groups and will attend school every
➢ K-12: Students and families uncomfortable coming to school as planned above, can choose a virtual learning option. Participating in this option will require a strong student and family commitment to the process. For greater detail, click below to view our Virtual Learning Expectations. DRAFT
WALK-THROUGHS We have conducted school walk-throughs with local health care providers to determine social distancing and safety recommendations in classrooms and shared spaces. HEALTH ROOMS We have created isolation and wellness rooms at each building to separate children with symptoms to be monitored by a school nurse or assistant until the parent or guardian arrives. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT Face coverings for staff and students, plexiglass dividers, water bottle filling stations, and hand sanitation stations have been acquired by the district. SIGNAGE Signs promoting physical distancing, proper hand hygiene, and mask wearing will be appropriately placed throughout the district. DRAFT
PHYSICAL BARRIERS Plexiglass barriers will be used in spaces where social distancing isn’t possible. SAFETY SIGNAGE Hand hygiene, social distancing, and symptoms signage will be placed in buildings. DRINKING WATER Bottle Filling Only. SANITATION STATIONS Increased sanitation stations will be placed in buildings with signage encouraging their use. LOCKERS Each student will be assigned an individual locker or space to put belongings. CREATING SPACE FOR DISTANCING Removal of furniture and reconfiguring or moving of work spaces to increase safe distancing will take place. DRAFT
CLEANING & DISINFECTING Increased daily and weekly cleaning/disinfecting protocols will be in place. SHARED OBJECTS Every student will have their own materials, manipulatives, and supplies. School-provided materials need to be cleaned after use. HAND HYGIENE Teaching and reinforcing of proper hand hygiene with strategic signage placed throughout buildings. FACE COVERINGS All students, staff, and visitors will be required to wear masks. We understand that it will be necessary to be patient as we begin this new requirement and especially at the elementary level. We also understand that wearing a mask for seven hours is not reasonable so “mask breaks” will be provided throughout the course of the day in various forms. Accommodations will be made for students with IEPs and/or documented health requirements. DRAFT
VISITORS Visitors will be restricted to student support services. Parent meetings will be held remotely. This includes IEP meetings. FIELD TRIPS No student field trips until further notice. We will reevaluate this in the future. For-credit work study with proper physical distancing and safety protocols will be allowed. PHYSICALLY DISTANCED LEARNING GROUPS 6th-12th grade students will be divided into two groups, Green (front half of the alphabet) and Yellow (back half). Group assignments will be communicated at a later date. COHORTS 4K-5th classrooms will stay as static groups, limiting interaction outside of classroom environment. SPECIAL EDUCATION Every child and adolescent with a disability is entitled to special education services based on their individualized education program (IEP). It may not be feasible, depending
both to distancing guidelines and the criteria outlined in a specific IEP. Attempts to meet physical distancing guidelines should meet the needs of the individual child and may require creative solutions, often on a case-by-case basis. IEP teams will meet to revise IEP's as needed. For additional Information, see our Special Education FAQ.
