INFO
Developed by Rudolf Steiner in 1919, Waldorf Education is based on an understanding of human development that addresses the needs of the growing child. Waldorf teachers strive to transform education into an art that educates the whole child—the heart and the hands, as well as the head. The educational philosophy's overarching goal is to develop free, morally responsible, and integrated individuals equipped with a high degree of social competence.
WALDORF
Latvia is a country in Northern Europe. It shares land borders with fellow Baltic states – Estonia and Lithuania – and both Russia and Belarus to the east. In the west, Latvia shares a maritime border with Sweden. Latvia is unique in many ways. It’s largest asset is its natural and cultural diversity and, of course, it’s people. Latvia’s geography is unusual – like a bridge between the West and East. It is proud of its 500 km long sandy seashore, half of Latvia’s territory is covered with unspoilt, natural forests.
LATVIA
Adazi Free Waldorf School is 24 years old and has grown from a small kindergarten into a school for all ages with over 400 students. Adazi Free Waldorf School is a state recognised and accredited school, 40 minutes out of Latvia’s capital Riga, in the beautiful town of Adazi. The school recognised by the World Waldorf association. The school is also a part of Unesco associate schools and takes active part in many projects around the world.
SCHOOL
Waldorf Exchange Seasonal Program welcomes around 75 children from Europe, America and Asia. Children are divided in smaller groups of 8 - 12 by age (accommodation is arranged by gender). Every group has a Teacher and a Counsellor - two people that are the guardians of the small group and lead activities and take full responsibility for the children for the duration of the Summer Program. Teachers are Waldorf trained professionals with experience in Waldorf schools and other Waldorf initiatives. Counsellors are Waldorf graduates, parents or enthusiasts. We have a professional doctor on the camp to take care of medical issues. We mainly speak English on the camp, but as the Teachers and Counsellors are from all around the world, children are free to speak in any language they wish to communicate.
PROGRAM
Children enjoy a multicultural environment, as we have participants and teachers from various countries in Europe, Asia and America. Days are filled with age appropriate activities, such as - singing, play, handcrafts, art, science, nature and adventure walks as well as bike riding and river rafting yet there is still plenty of time for the children to wander and explore, to create, and to dream amidst our beautiful fields, forests, gardens, and lakes. Every day is well thought-out and planned by the Camp Teachers and Counsellors and overseen by the WESP Principal. At WESP we have activities that the whole camp take part in, like Morning and Evening Circles, outings outside the Campsite as well as activities in Little Groups.
