Your thoughts on contested histories in BC…

 “Systemic cultural genocide of First Nations people in Canada:

breaking treaties, IRS, 60s scoop, tuberculosis hospitals; Racist historical laws vrs people of colour in Canada: e.g. Chinese Head tax, segregation policies targeted schools, public spaces like pools, hospitals and cemeteries; Racist immigration policies (i.e. refusal of entry Jewish refugees in WWII, Sikh, Muslim and Hindu passengers--all British citizens-

  • in 1914 on the Komagata Maru); Vancouver’s vibrant black

community in Hogan's Alley was destroyed and buried under the Georgia Viaduct using urban renewal policies as excuse; Municipal and federal government’s forced sale of Japanese- Canadian property during WWII using internment as excuse for "urban renewal" in Vancouver's Japantown; Contesting monuments and memorials of colonizers as continuing to cause harm and trauma for communities of colour.”
