What is CSCS?

Owned by the UK Construction industry. Members of the company include representatives from:

  • Build UK
  • Construction Industry Council
  • Construction Clients Group
  • Civil Engineering Contractors Association
  • Federation of Master Builders
  • GMB Trade Union
  • Unite the Union

What is CSCS?

  • Encourage development of a trained and qualified UK

construction workforce

  • All site workers to hold the right CSCS card for the work

they undertake

  • Construction contractors and clients to understand and

maximise potential benefits a qualified, smart-carded workforce can bring to their business

  • Principal contractors to carry out more rigorous on-site

checks using smart technology

Cards Available

Labourer card for general site workers Red trainee card for individuals registered for a qualification Experienced worker card. Must have employer recommendation and be registered for qualification Blue skilled card for NVQ 2 achievers or equivalent Black card based on Level 4 or 5 for managers Academically Qualified Person card Gold skilled card for a Level 3 achievers or equivalent Professionally Qualified Person card for site based professionals

Applicant must have one of the following:

  • N/SVQ in selected trade
  • Apprenticeship (Operatives Only)
  • Academic Qualification
  • Experienced Worker / Manager
  • Professional Membership
  • Assessed Route – working with FCS to develop this

ALL ROUTES REQUIRE A PASS IN THE HEALTH & SAFETY TEST

How to Apply for a CSCS card?

Health, Safety and Environment Test

  • Undertaken every 5 years before a card will be issued
  • Test of retained health and safety knowledge
  • All questions published in advance
  • Training not a requirement – how card holder acquires

knowledge up to them and their employer

  • Test increases in standard for level of card holder
