The History of The Mentor-Protégé Program September 27, 2010 – Small Business Jobs Act was signed into law. January 2, 2013 – The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013 was signed into law. February 2, 2015 – SBA published its comprehensive proposal for the new government-wide mentor-protégé program in lieu of four (4) separate programs in the Federal Register. July 25, 2016 – The Final Rule regarding the Small Business Mentor- Protégé Program was published in the Federal Register. August 24, 2016 – The effective date of the Final Rule.
What is The Mentor-Protégé Program? The Mentor-Protégé (MP) Program is a government wide program that allows a large business to provide assistance to a small business under several specific categories. With the implementation of this program, all other mentor- protégé programs of other federal departments and agencies (except for the Department of Defense) will go away by August 2017. The MP Program allows the protégé to joint venture with its SBA approved mentor and qualify as a small business on any federal contracts.
What Are The Benefits? TYPES OF ASSISTANCE REAL WORLD EXAMPLES 1. Must have past performance in the industry if using a secondary NAICS code to qualify. Must be registered in SAM. Can generally have no more than two (2) mentor at a time.
How Do You Get Started? Get certified if you haven’t already? Self certify as a WOSB or EDWOSB online Use an SBA approved 3 rd party certifier (WBENC, NWBOC, USWCC or El Paso Chamber of Commerce) If you need help or want to outsource, then contact us!
