  2. WHY PUZZLES? • We chose to make a product that was once popular among kids especially those with siblings. • Target Customers: kids age 10-15 years old • Puzzle boxes can hide valuable things and can be very difficult to open without knowing the correct order of puzzle operations.

  3. THE DESIGN • We chose a design that was simple but fun to make for kids. • We made three main puzzles: gears, maze, and Pachinko • Most was laser cut and used very inexpensive materials. • We tested the product design and prototype on Luke’s cousins who are in the age range. They love puzzles and figuring out things. They seemed to like the puzzles and the concept of being able to hide things from their other siblings. • Out of the three puzzles, the gear puzzle is the only one to unlock the door to find the prize. The other two are “fake” puzzles that have no purpose in opening the box. This is to distract someone from figuring out how to actually solve the puzzle box.

  4. THE PUZZLES The Gears The Pachinko The Maze The puzzle that unlocks These two only serve to distract from figuring out the box. how to open the box.

  6. COST AND TIME • The sheet of wood we bought to make the box cost $14.35, however this could produce multiple boxes so the average would be about $3.00 per box. Straws and nails used to make the maze and pachinko puzzles were materials we did not need to buy, however an estimation for that would be $2.50. And for the gear puzzle we 3D printed parts which cost approximately $1.50. Thus, the total price for one puzzle box prototype would be about $18.35 The cost for 1000 units would be $9,175.00. If this were to be a real product with stronger materials, the cost would have to be about $15.00. • In total, we can estimate about 54 man hours were put into the puzzle box including design, drafting, and building.

  7. CONCLUDE • The puzzle box is designed to be a place to store stuff for older siblings who do not want their younger brothers and sisters to find it.
