The Prince’s Foundation for Building Community is one of 20 charities for which the Prince of Wales is President. Together they comprise the largest multi-cause charitable enterprise in the United Kingdom.
Our mission is to improve the quality of people’s lives by helping to build and improve communities that are beautiful, long-lasting and healthy.
From Cornwall to Caithness to Glenarm, we’re helping people to get to grips with sustainability. We’re currently involved in more than 30 developments, constructions, projects and causes in the UK. From designing children’s hospitals to building satellite towns, to teaching architecture and urban planning, we’re striving towards a sustainable, community based future for the country.
Central to this is sustaining local identity.
“Opening Doors to the Future” Who? What? When?
“Opening Doors to the Future” Who? Community
“Opening Doors to the Future” What? Democratization of the Built Environment
“Too much development in recent years has been mediocre, insensitive and has detracted from the character of the areas in which we live and work. The effect has been that much of the public have come to assume that any particular change to our built environment will be negative… (the reforms) will enshrine the local plan – produced by local people – as the keystone of the planning system.”
“Opening Doors to the Future” When for us?
But why wait… WE’RE DOING IT NOW!

At the close of the EbD the product is a shared vision for future development based on robust sustainable design principles. As the vision generated is based
