The facts…

The phonics screening check is designed to confirm whether pupils have learnt phonic decoding to an appropriate standard. The check consists of 20 real words & 20 nonsense words that pupils read aloud to the teacher. Most checks take around 10 minutes for each child. The checks are informal and in a quiet and friendly environment. It is designed to test the systems in place at the school. We will report the score to the parents by the end of the Summer Term.
