The OSCAR project: a collaborative network throughout Italy
OSCAR has been the first study aimed at evaluating the performances of genotypic tropism testing using ESTA as reference in a so large cohort of patients

Identify new V3 genetic determinants correlated with different co-receptor usage, crucial to set up even more accurate genotypic prediction of HIV-1 tropism. Evaluate the impact of FPR on HIV-related markers such as CD4-cell counts and HIV-RNA in ART naïve and experienced patients and on the time-to-achieve CD4 cell-count >350 cells/µl in drug-naïve patients starting a first line ART-regimen . Define the correlation between FPR obtained by population V3- genotyping and the presence of HIV-1 variants with DM/X4-tropism, detected by both Enhanced-Sensitivity Trofile phenotypic assay (ESTA) and ultra-deep V3-pyrosequencing (UDPS).
