pupils to show what they have learned over the last 4 years
Attaining the right level

- f
not reaching Age Related Expectations.
When are they?
Week beginning 11th May 2020. Please make sure your child is in school! Activities Week will be the following week.
What we are doing now - Preparation
- Building confidence
- Having a go at practice tests- these will take place
at the end of each term.
- Addressing gaps in learning- keep up sessions
within the school day.
- Booster classes will begin after Christmas and will
be invite only, this will be to support children who may need consolidation of certain skills.
How to help your child
Discuss with them the importance of School. Make sure they get enough sleep. Make sure they come to school every day. Make sure they get to school on time – Key Skills. Set aside quality family and fun time. Encourage them to ask the teacher if they are unsure about anything. If your child wears glasses ensure they have a pair in school and that they wear them.
SATs: what happens?
- Reading Test (1 hour)
- Maths Tests consisting of:
- Arithmetic Paper (30 minutes)
- Two Reasoning papers (40 minutes each)
- Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling Paper (45 minutes
and separate spelling test consisting of 20 spellings).
- Writing: Teacher assessment – completed in Term 6.
Home support for reading
- Children need to develop their reading
stamina; this means they need to be able to read for at least 30 minutes in one go regularly.
- Spend time talking about the book: Ask your
child to summarise the story. Discuss connections they have made with experiences and other stories. Ask them what views or
- pinions the author may have been trying to
make.
Homework
- We also expect the children to read 3 times over the week
for at least 20 minutes.
- Spelling words need to be learnt and will be tested weekly-
these can be found on the website.
- Regular practise of times tables. The children must know
up 12 x 12!
Times Table Rock Stars Heatmap
- Your child will be bringing
home their times tables
- heatmap. The heatmap
shows the average time your child takes to answer each multiplication fact.
- The quicker their response
time, the more green the box will be, and the slower their response time, the more red it will be.
- This shows which
individual times table facts your child needs to practise. The Times Table Rock Stars programme will automatically include more of the red facts into your child’s practice, and these are the times table facts your child will benefit from practising at home.
