  1. About the National Partnership We are a nonprofit organization that improves the quality of life for kids and communities by promoting active, healthy lifestyles and safe infrastructure that supports bicycling and walking . Equity is at the forefront of our work.

  2. In 1969, nearly 50% of all children walked or bicycled to school. Today, just 13% walk or bicycle. All kids and communities deserve access to safe, healthy streets and opportunities for physical activity .

The Evidence is In: Safe Routes to School Works • Safe Routes to School programs lead to a 35-45% increase in walking and bicycling to school • Safe Routes to School programs result in a 45-75% decrease in pedestrian injuries near school Kids who walk and bike are • more physically active, fitter and have lower BMIs than kids who don’t

Fire Up Your Feet Spring Activity Challenge During the Month of April Elementary and middle school parents, kids, school staff and teachers register, track physical activity, and compete for challenge awards between April 1 through April 30. Challenge Awards are based on percentage of participation based on school enrollment/Other awards included as well. Award dollars are used toward health and wellness initiatives at the school.
