The 1970’s

  • It is evident to see that in the past, specifically around the 1970’s, South plainfield

High School offered very different and distinct extracurricular activities. The roster

  • f clubs and activities are completely contrast to what we have today in SPHS. -
  • The roster of activities in 1978 includes clubs that modern day students are not

familiar with such as Weight Training club, Science fiction club, C.I.E, C.O.E, Announcer’s Club, Disco Hustle club, monogram club, International club and more.

  • Some clubs in the same year that we much more recognize are D.E.C.A Student

Extracurricular/Clubs Activities Present In 1983

  • Throughout the course of the 1980’s, SPHS had experienced an

increase in the amount of clubs and activities present in the school

  • Some examples of clubs that were available to the students were

those such as Shakespeare Club, Announcers Club, and Fire Patrol as well

  • We can see the diversity of the clubs at SPHS during 1983 and

unfortunately the amount of clubs present decrease throughout the years

  • This is seen because Announcers Club, Shakespeare Club, and

Fire Patrol are no longer existent here at SPHS

Overview

By examining different articles and yearbooks from the 1960’s to modern day,

  • ur group was able to find trends and impacts that history had on South

Plainfield Society. Participation in activities and sports seemed to have gone down over the years from looking at the amount of squads for each sports and the amount of clubs overall. However, due to the technological advancements and historical breakthrough, the modern day was able to produce many interesting clubs and courses such as a whole course on coding and computer science, Model United Nations, and Club’s bigger emphasis on health awareness. All in all, SPHS showed that they did not lose interest in making a variety of interesting and new clubs and activities that will interest all kinds of students.
