Our consulting research has categorised the reasons for the observed lack of uptake according to the five pillars of the INFOCOMM Technologies e-Readiness Model:
- Business Environment – Nodal information flows along Caribbean agri-value chains are
not optimal i.e input supply (research) to production; consumption to production etc.
- Governance – The sector is well populated with governing bodies i.e. agriculture
authorities, agri-practitioner associations and agri-business support organisations. These
- rganisations however, do not optimally leverage ICTs to facilitate the management of
the members under their purview
- HR Capacity – There is a generally low level of comfort, proficiency and expertise in the
use of ICTs, particularly at the production and input supply nodes of the chain

- Psychographics – There is not generally a disposition to use ICTs to solve
- rganisational/ sector/ national agriculture challenges (though this is
beginning to change)

services that can advance the sector generally exists in the Caribbean
