What is BHP role?
Sustainability is one way road In the last 15 years we have taken key steps to move to a sustainable operation:
- Water: We stopped the water extraction from Monturaqui aquifer
and now we are 100% supplied from our desalinization plant.
- Power: by 2025 Spence and Escondida will be supplied with
100% of renewable power. Our next step is focusing on waste management, introducing technology and innovation in a collaborative approach to bring the best of each one. Contribute to a sustainable economy and bring people and resources together to build a better word by transforming tailings deposits into valuable materials

Industrial Demonstration Scale Up Up to 10 teams are selected. They get US$ 50K in grants and samples of tailing to prove their solution at lab scale Up to 3 teams are selected. They get US$300K in grants to demonstrate their solution is industrially and commercially viable at an industrial level A grant of US$ 8.6M will be available for one or more finalists to scale their solutions in collaboration with BHP.
