LEED CREDIT WEIGHTINGS

LEED 2009 uses the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s TRACI environmental impact categories as the basis for weighting each credit. TRACI was developed to assist with impact

evaluation for life-cycle assessment, industrial ecology, process design, and pollution prevention.

LEED 2009 also takes into consideration the weightings developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST); these compare impact categories with one another and assign a relative weight to each.

Credit Structure Format

Intent: Describes the goal of the credit in general terms. This is the basic principle for the credit existence and used as a reference when making interpretations. Requirement: Describes in detail what is required for the credit to be achieved. In this section you will find reference information, calculation requirements, and specific documentation requirements. Establishment: Describes how the credit must be implemented and monitor. This section also explains how the monitoring protocols needs to be set up and followed to comply with the credit requirements. Performance: Describes for how long the activity must be monitor and to what levels the performance must be maintained.
