Issues with Run 1

07/09/2019 Mishra | Summary Run 2A and Plan for Run 2B 2

  • Field Cage: Sparked inducing 50-100 µAmps current
  • Condenser: Liquid Argon was bubbling every few seconds
  • Electrical: Current cross talk
  • These caused:
  • ~30 FEMB channels to be

dead

  • ~40% FEMB channels be

become unresponsive (cycling warm to cold makes them respond and function !)

slide-3
SLIDE 3

Improvement for Run 2A

  • Field Cage repaired:
  • Removed POGO Pins
  • Removed 1 cm of Printed Circuit Board at each corner
  • Direct wire joint between sides
  • 1 GOhm resistor only on top and bottom of FC
  • Condenser:
  • Stop condenser
  • Visually inspect bubbles stop
  • Manual control: Cryostat pressure
  • Electrical:
  • Return of FC moved from APA frame to Cryostat Ground
  • EPICS

Electrical: Noise

07/09/2019 Mishra | Summary Run 2A and Plan for Run 2B 4

  • Thanks to hard work or Rory and

Linda, (you could visit our yesterday’s art work at PAB), we have concluded that

  • PD detector power system induces

noise in CE. This is visible by increase in the low frequency noise in CE, change in the shape of the noise (fft) and overall rise of the noise level by up to 5 dB.

  • CE detector power system induces

noise in PD. This is visible in PD measurements (similar analysis), both in amplitude and frequency.

  • We have not tested what is the

effect of other power, we are sharing from CE crates, has on CE electronics.

  • Recommendation: PL506 and MPOD are the

baseline design of the DUNE-CE.

  • To accurately determine the CE noise

level, We would like to separate all the

  • ther power being providing from these

two units (if possible).

  • Need and proposed Solutions for PD:
  • We need a new separate crate and/or

power for PD system.

  • Grounding of these should be clearly

documented and discussed with ICEBERG.

  • TPC in cryostat (06/13/2019)
  • Changes made to PD CAT6 and Power Supply
  • No 800 kHz pickup
  • 2-5 dB increase at low frequency

Goals for Run 2

  • Run 2A Goal:
  • Physics Goals:
  • a) Study the noise performance of CE and PD after all the changes;
  • b) Ensure that there is no further damage to CE FEMBs.
  • Run 2B Goal: Fully commission ICEBERG (We do not want to

switch to SBND type of FEMB without this run)

  • Physics Goals:
  • Operate TPC to see tracks,
  • Study the noise performance of CE and PD;
  • Ensure that there is no further damage to CE FEMBs.

Schedule of Run 2A

  • All time below are rough guess and will depend on the availability of technical support staff. (Aria and Mike Z are

requested to help coordinate this).

  • 6/28 Friday morning turn CE power on only (48 Volts) and study if there is any change in CE channel count. till
  • 6/28 Friday 5:00 PM, Turn off CE and Turn the Condenser on.
  • 7/1 Monday July 1st turn CE on and run for 1 hour.
  • 7/1 Turn on Wire Bias and Run till 8:00 PM.
  • 7/1 Monday 8:00 PM Turn off Wire Bias and CE, return the cryostat in condenser mode.
  • 7/2 Tuesday 6:00 AM topped Cryostat.
  • 7/2 Tuesday 10:00 AM July 2nd Turn on CE, Wire Bias and Cathode
  • 7/2 Tuesday 8:00 PM Turn off Wire Bias and CE, return the cryostat in condenser mode.

  • 7/5 Friday 9:00 AM Turn off condenser
  • 7/5 Friday Study 9:00 AM PD only with no CE and TPC power. (This does not requires top off of the cryostat)
  • 7/5 Friday 5:00 PM Turn on condenser
  • 7/8 Monday 6:00 AM Top off Cryostat.
  • 7/8 -7/10 Top Off and Take Data 24 hours ……….
