To achieve educational justice, Seattle Public Schools (SPS) strives to provide safe learning environments, curriculum that incorporates a student’s life experiences and culture, and instruction delivered by high-quality, culturally responsive educators. Unfortunately, many students from certain ethnicities have not historically experienced equitable opportunities for all or part of their educational journey (including African and African American, Asian Pacific Islander and Pacific Islander, LatinX, and Native American students). These students are our priority – with an intentional focus on African American males.

What are effective ways of outreach that have been most impactful for our communities further removed from access?

Questions

How can we collaborate with our partnerships in innovative ways to support our students and families? Planning ahead for

  • pening schools,

what are ideas in rethinking engagement to center our families that have been disengaged during the pandemic?

During this time of remote learning, authentic engagement is being challenged:

Whole Child – Whole Family

As we design new systems, it is critical that we design for the most vulnerable staff member, the most vulnerable family and the most vulnerable student. If do that well, everyone benefits if center what matters.
