Student Poster Presentation Competition Session General Information

Thank you for submitting a poster presentation for the IBE 2012 Annual Conference Poster Size & Design Recommendations: Display boards and hanging supplies will be provided for mounting the posters. Each presenter is allotted a maximum space of 4’ x 4’ (48 inches wide x 48 inches tall) to display their poster. Since the boards accommodate two posters per side it is imperative that the presenters adhere to the size perimeters. Posters exceeding the maximum size will be disqualified from the competition. Note individuals who submitted more than one abstract will receive one 4’ x 4’ space per poster presentation. A one-piece poster is recommended. The title, introduction, authors, and affiliations/organization should appear at the top of the poster. Keep in mind that the text and figures must be easily readable by viewers from a distance of at least 3 feet (1 meter). Sans-serif fonts (such as Arial or Helvetica) are

• recommended. Please avoid stylized or outlined fonts and excessive italics. It is suggested that text is

kept to a minimum; use tables and figures. Competition & Judging Recommendations: You will have an opportunity to verbally communicate the details of your poster and you may supplement it with handouts. Please remember that the viewers and judges are from a broad range of disciplines within the biological engineering community. Therefore, it is recommended that posters be designed for a broad technical audience. For your reference, a copy of the judge’s evaluation form is provided below. Please keep your oral presentations brief; do not exceed five minutes (points will be deducted for presentations exceeding the five minute time limit). Poster set-up and tear down times as well as the session location will be communicated with acceptance

• letters. Each accepted poster will be assigned a number and listed in the final program. The number

assigned in the program will also appear on the poster boards. It is imperative that posters are displayed correctly to ensure the judges are reviewing the accurate posters. The top three Undergraduate Student Posters and top three Graduate Student Posters will receive cash awards ($150/$100/$75) and certificates of merit. Awards will be presented at the banquet on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 6:30pm. POSTERS

Each poster board is 4 ft high and 8 ft wide. Poster presentations will be places on both faces (front and back) of the board. Each poster presentation is assigned 4 by 4 ft space (see the figure). This way one poster board will have two poster presentations on the front side and two on the back side.
