  7. Steps to Certification – Quality Classes A1, A2, and B (industrial) • – Input/Raw materials. – Quality Parameters.

  8. Steps to Certification – Raw Material Always has to be 100% from the class. • Requirements on additives •

  10. Steps to Certification – Quality Management Quality Manager • – Qualification, competence, experience for the job. – Responsible for pellet quality and also internal documentation. – Bi ‐ annual external training. Technical Operating Equipment • – Inspection of raw materials for contamination. – Raw material storage. (e.g. paved) – Cleanliness inspection of vehicles. – After malfunction, a method and process to remove all potential out ‐ of ‐ spec pellets and quality ‐ testing of produced pellets. – Sieve/screen. – In ‐ house laboratory.

  12. Steps to Certification – Internal Documentation Incoming/outgoing goods • – Date, quality, inspection results, supplier/customer, etc. Additives • Previous load • Production tonnage (to be reported monthly) and exempted sale • Operating Log • – Any issues, repairs, maintenance, next scheduled maintenance and completion, resolutions, pellet quality inspection results, quantity of discarded pellets, etc. Training Record and employee responsibilities. • Complaint log • Self ‐ inspections (“in ‐ house” inspections) •

  13. Steps to Certification – Self ‐ inspections Inspection Parameters Inspection Parameters • • – Bulk density (EN15103) – Bulk density (Cylinder) – Mechanical durability (EN15210 ‐ 1) – Mechanical durability (lignometer or tumbler) – Fines (EN15210 ‐ 1) – Fines (ISO3310 ‐ 2 sieve) – Length (EN16127) – Length (caliper resolution 0.1 mm) – Moisture (EN 14774 ‐ 2) – Moisture (chamber 105±2 ° C etc.) Inspection Equipment • – What the EN/ISO standard calls for.

  15. Steps to Certification – Self ‐ inspections Inspection Frequency • – Greater of once a shift or N shown below.

  16. Steps to Certification – in ‐ house sample retention Used to verify quality when complaints are received. • Sealed bags with consecutive numbers. • Producer: 1.5 kg each day. • Trader: 500 g per delivery vehicle – bag# on delivery slip. • Suitable storage conditions. • Retain for 9 months (for producers, 274 samples x 1.5 kg = 411 kg). •

  17. Steps to Certification – Sustainability Sustainability requirement • – “Statement of Commitment” to sustainable sourcing. – Record input from forest conformity certification systems. Carbon Footprint • – CO 2 ‐ eq emission – Calculation tool provided by EPC.

  18. I’m ready. Now what? Application to WPAC. • Report projected production. • Select an inspection body and testing body and apply. • Pay license fee. • Audit. • NC resolutions. • Certification. • Report Produced Quantities. • Surveillance audit • – Once a year for producers. – Once in three years for traders.
