What is Certification?
- Wikipedia says - Certification refers to the confirmation of
certain characteristics of an object, person, or organization. This confirmation is often, but not always, provided by some form of external review, education, assessment, or audit.
- ASHA certification provides assurance to all stakeholders
(patients, state boards, employers, insurers) that you possess the knowledge, skills and abilities for entry-level practice.
- Certification is often confused with membership, licensure and
- accreditation. Certification is the only function that measures
your knowledge, skills and abilities, that is, competence.

Maintaining Your Certification
Every certificate holder is assigned a 3-year certification
maintenance interval. All professional development hours must be completed within this time period. Maintaining certification is an ongoing process and once an interval ends, a new one is assigned.
All certificate holders must accumulate and report 30
certification maintenance hours (CMHs) of professional development during each 3-year interval in order to maintain their ASHA CCC’s.
15
What qualifies for Certification Maintenance Hours (CMH)?
ASHA CEUs are just one way you can meet the requirements. Other
professional organizations are acceptable for CMHs
Employer-sponsored in-service training programs are acceptable for CMHs. College or university course work is acceptable for CMHs All 30 CMHs can be completed online. Compliance forms must be submitted for each interval on or before December
31, of the year the interval is completed. If you are a member of the CE Registry, all ASHA approved courses will be updated on the registry and a form will automatically be submitted for you once 30 CMHs have been completed.
