Background • During the 2017-18 school year over 3,000 MPS enrolled students experienced homelessness • Student homelessness is linked to poverty and is heavily concentrated in a few schools and neighborhoods • Research by the University of MN has shown that homelessness impacts academic outcomes • Increasing housing stability is one of the most important steps we can take to support students 4

Supportive Services • Contracted service provider to provide services • Goal is to ensure access to and support for long- term housing stability • Focus on housing readiness, tenancy supports and connections to resources such as child care assistance and employment opportunities • Community-based services 7

Evaluation • Partnership with University of Minnesota • U of M researchers are evaluating responses to student homelessness in partnership with State Homework Starts with Home program • Stable Homes, Stable Schools will be incorporated into this evaluation • Will measure what interventions are most successful and the housing stability and educational outcomes for families served by the program 9

  10. Next Steps • Funding Agreement between City and MPHA • Finalize program manual • RFP for service provider • Continued landlord engagement 10
