The West Virginia Legislature enacted a sports betting law
Regulation of the retail and online sportsbooks at all five of West Virginia’s casinos falls under the purview of the West Virginia Lottery.
WEST VIRGINIA
- WV was the fifth U.S. state to offer legal sports betting
- One of the first to allow for online sports betting
- Each facility is authorized to operate up to three
mobile apps that allow for online sports wagering within the State’s borders
- 10% tax with 15% of that for admin costs

- The West Virginia Lottery worked diligently to craft
emergency rules for casinos and suppliers upon passage of the legislation and the repeal of PASPA
- Nevada and New Jersey were used as models
- Emergency rules were filed on August 6, 2018
to allow for operations to start as soon as possible with the upcoming football season
- West Virginia Lottery approves rules on October 2, 2018
