WHO ARE THE “SONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION” (SAR)?

  • Non-Profit, Patriotic, Educational, Fraternal, Lineage Organization.
  • Through Genealogical Research, m ale m em bers trace fam ily blood

lines to ancestors that fought/ contributed to the cause 0 f freedom and liberty in the Am erican Revolution.

  • Seeks to m aintain and extend the institutions of Am erican freedom ,

an appreciation of true patriotism and respect for our national sym bols, the value of Am erican citizenship, and the unifying force

  • f “e pluribus unum ”.
  • Constitution Day, Flag Day, and Bill of Rights Day - established

through SAR efforts.

  • Youth education is very im portant to SAR.

BRIEF HISTORY OF SAR

  • Founded April 18 8 9, on 10 0 th anniversary of inauguration of

George Washington as our 1st President.

  • Federal legislation established Charter for National Society, SAR,

perm itting State level societies to establish chapters within their borders.

  • Alabam a - 16 chapters. Nationally - Over 33,0 0 0 m em bers in all 50

States (including Societies in Canada, Mexico, France, Germ any, Switzerland and United Kingdom ).

during the Am erican Revolution entitled “The Am erican Patriotic Chronology” (published by Jack Manning, the National Society’s Historian, and Alabam a Society SAR) is on web site via blog.alssar.org.

JROTC/ ROTC AWARDS

honors JROTC/ ROTC Cadets via its Medals and Awards program , designed for Senior Military Instructor to recognize

  • utstanding Cadet achievem ents.
  • Program

consists of JROTC Bronze Medal and uniform ribbon, norm ally awarded at school’s “end of year” awards program . The Senior Military Instructor selects the “Best Cadet” who fosters the principal of the Citizen Soldier, exem plified by the Minutem an of the Revolutionary War days.

  • Medal, Ribbon and Certificate - usually presented to Cadet by State

Society Chapter m em ber. Let Society Chapter sponsor know when award presentation is scheduled. SAR purchases Medal package.

OUTSTANDING JROTC CADET MEDALLION (CON’T)

  • Involvem ent in outside activity is also im portant.
  • If Cadet is selected as national winner, our National Society will

provide:

  • an award of $20 0 0 , and
  • up to $10 0 0 in reim bursable travel expenses to attend our

National Congress (this year it was in Boston). There are also m onies for 2 nd place ($10 0 0 ) and 3 rd place ($50 0 ). We want to honor our Nation’s future leaders but we need your help!
