  4. What is SMIIC ? • SMIIC is an affiliated intergovermental organisation to the OIC with 32 Member States • An Intergovermental Standardization Body like ISO, CEN, GSO …etc. • Established in August 2010. • Headquarters located in Istanbul, Turkey

Main Objectives of SMIIC • To prepare and harmonize OIC/SMIIC standards • To achieve uniformity in metrology, laboratory testing and standardization in member states. • To provide technical assistance to the Member States which do not possess such bodies. • To establish an Accreditation Scheme. 8

  9. A Standard is • A document established by consensus • Approved by a recognized body • Contributed by its stakeholders • For common and repeated use • Voluntary 9

  10. Standardization • Process to issue standards • Through mutual work with the contribution of the stakeholders namely producers, users, consumers, governmental and non- governmental organizations, institutions and other interested parties. 10

  14. SMIIC Committee on Conformity Assessment Standards (CCA) • A new committee on : - Preparation of standards on criteria for bodies involved in testing , calibration, certification , inspection , accreditation , - First meeting will be held on 23-24 March 2016. - ToR will be finalized. 14

SMIIC Metrology Committee (MC) • (MC) was established during the 5 th SMIIC BOD Meeting • 34 Member States NMI • Recently legal metrology training provided in Tunisia • Will organise the continuation of the legal metrology trainings consecutively in İstanbul and in Sarajevo • Working on Certified Reference Material for Halal Testing Instruments 16

  17. Accreditation • Accreditation is the independent evaluation of conformity assessment bodies against recognized standards to ensure their impartiality and competence. 17

  18. Accreditation (1) • Multilateral agreements at the international and regional accreditation body organisations, like IAF ( International Accreditation Forum), ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation), EA (Europen Cooperation for Accreditation), etc. 18

SMIIC AC • Accreditation Committee is responsible for supporting actions for establishing a sound international halal accreditation system and raise awareness of accreditation concept within the OIC Member States. • Established by SMIIC Inagurial General Assembly Meeting in 2 August 2010 (first ToR) • Impartial and independent (40th CFM) 19

  21. SMIIC AC (1) • All national accreditation bodies of OIC member states invited by 42nd CFM to become member of SMIIC AC and take part in its activities such as Halal Accreditation. (42nd CFM ECO D5) • The number of SMIIC AC Member Bodies has reached 25 to date. • Held 9 meetings since 2012. 21

Cooperation with Institutions • The Institute encourages to cooperate with other international and regional organizations interested partially or wholly in standardization or related activities. • The Secretary General shall be responsible for carrying out this cooperation. • Signed MoUs: GSO, AIDMO, ITC • To be Signed MoUs : CEN, ISO 23
