Axillary artery

  • Continuation of the subclavian artery.
  • Begins at the outer border of the first rib.
  • Ends at lower border of T. major.
  • Continue as brachial artery.
  • Crossed by pectoralis minor, dividing it

into 3 parts.

  • Each part gives branches according to its

number.

  • Located inside axillary sheath and

related directly to cords of brachial plexus throughout its course.

Superficial Veins

  • Dr. Maher Hadidi
  • Both Upper and Lower limb are similar in

having two superficial veins to drain their superficial structures.

  • In the upper limb:
  • Cephalic vein Lateral
  • Basilic vein Medial
  • Both ends into the axillary vein.
  • Both connected by the median cubital vein

anterior to elbow joint.

  • This vein commonly used to give fluids or to
  • btain blood sample.

Axillary Vein

  • Begins by the union of the basilic

vein& veins of the brachial artery at lower border of teres major.

  • Passes upward medial to axillary a.
  • Ends At outer border of the 1st rib to

continue as the subclavian v.

  • Receives cephalic vein at its end.
