Linear A Levels – All subjects

 Students sit all of their exams at the end of the two year course.  1-12 July 2019: Students will sit mock exams in all subjects. They need to secure a grade D as a minimum to progress onto the second A level course.  Students on 4 A levels will most likely deselect their weakest subject moving into year 13

BTEC Qualifications

 Students will sit a mixture of externally marked exam papers (25% weighting), internal practical assignments and internal research assignments.

A LEVEL TARGET GRADES

 These will be set within the next two weeks  Students will have a single target grade across all subjects (called an ALPS target)  These targets are minimum expected grades

Independent Learning

 Bridging the gap between GCSE and A level  Students must rapidly change their work habits to cope with the demands of A level and Level 3 BTEC qualifications  Falling behind in year 12 will have a cataclysmic impact on final outcomes

 Increasing independence – students need to develop good working habits, and quickly  Each single subjects demands at least 5 hours work a week outside lessons  Study (not social) periods - students must use them!  Study Centre - open to 6pm every day  Paid employment - maximum 10 hours a week  Attendance is crucial

Attendance: school requirement is 95% attendance Students of equal ability with attendance of over 95% perform one grade higher per subject than those with attendance of 85% or less Attendance percentage Days missed over a school year 100% 0 days 95% 10 days 90% 20 days 85% 30 days 80% 40 days

The 16-19 Bursary

 Government funding which we can claim to support students in the 6th form in education (it is a limited amount).  Used to help with any education related costs: books/meals/exam entry/field trips.  Available to families on low income or students in care.  To apply, students collect an application form from the Sixth Form office or download from the web site.  Any questions should be directed to Mrs Evans- Barlow levans-barlow@hrs.education
