The municipality on the Aries River, namely Turda, is located on the international highway E60, between the towns of Cluj and Targu Mures, at the foot of the Apuseni Mountains, and being endowed by nature with attractive surroundings, such as: The Aries Valley, Turda’s Gorges, The Salt Lakes, The Salt Mine. In a quiet district named Turda Noua, located in the North – Western part of this locality, next to a beautiful natural park it is located the Technical College, ready at any time to welcome the guests. During 1921-1922 the Glass Factory was built in Turda. Due to the fact that in this factory mainly foreign experts were working , it was necessary to set up a school in order to teach our people to work in the domain of glass-manufacturing. Therefore the school for glass- manufacturing apprentices was founded in 1936, which functioned without a didactic status during the first school year in a building ,on the factory premises. In 1948, the year of the Education Reform, the Ministry of Light Industry builds up the “Professional and Technical School Centre Turda” .Founded in the year 1948 and having had different names, The Turda Technical College is well-known not only due to a fifty–three year-existence, but mainly due to the distinct position which holds in the municipality’s social – cultural landscape, since it is the only educational institution with such a profile.

Respecting its period of existence but viewing reality through the eyes of truth, we must point out that the school we are presenting has ceased to be an „experimental” one, becoming a long time ago an „experienced” one, being ready at whatever time to compete with similar schools. The interest in the Technical College from Turda has outrun the municipality’s perimeter, the pupils coming from the whole territory of the Turda–Aries–Valea Ierii area. Their orientation towards this college is explainable both due to the wide range of professions, attractive and accessible both for boys and for girls (a list of the professions, profiles, handicrafts is to be found below), but also due to the rich, modern basis and also because of the competitive human staff. The institution has qualified teaching staff, which covers all the sectors and domains of activity.

When speaking about the management of the school we speak about an Administration Board having six members as teachers, the mayor’s representative , three persons local council representatives, a parent and a student. Also, there is a council for the curriculum that consists of the Chiefs of Curricular Areas and Boards from school. The council decides through an action plan the activities which must be done for the well development of the teaching process. In our school there are the following Curricular Areas: Language and Communication, Mathematics and Science, Man and Society, Sports and Arts,

  • Technologies. The Methodological Boards are: Romanian and Modern

Languages , Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Social Sciences and Religion, Mechanics and Mechatronics, Electronics , Electrotechnics, Clothes Design, Chemistry and Environmental Protection and the Head-teachers Board. The school is run by a Headmaster and a Deputy Headmaster.

The Board on Quality Obtaining long term quality on the development of the curriculum of vocational and technical school requires a careful planning and

  • rganization which is being done according to the eight principles of

quality. The members of the management elaborate on the mission, vision and values and are models of a culture of excellence. At the level of The Technical College Turda a Board of Ensuring the Quality was formed by teachers and members of the ruling team: the headmaster- Dumitru Mateescu, as responsible and coordinator of ensuring the quality and the teachers members: Oprea Daniela, Crina Dumitru, Gabriela Raita, Therefore a frame was created where the implementing of the quality ensuring instruments could be discussed , along with a functional group to supervise the taking place of the activities. This functional group is responsible for the self-evaluation process, for planning improvement and ensuring quality, for evaluating competencies. The management team and the teachers attended some training courses which were held at The Technical College Turda where information were given about the quality ensuring in education and professional training, performance indicators , principles of quality , criteria of observing the teaching and learning process. Activities Evaluation Self- evaluation exercises took place at The Technical College Turda , each teacher being given a teaching/ learning observation worksheet for self-evaluation according to the performance indicators of the quality

  • principle. Discussions took place as a result of this exercise where

examples of good practice were debated , a self – evaluation report was made and an improvement plan. This way the quality system undergoes a process of constant improvement which is part of the quality improvement strategy which was settled by the school. The recommendations regarding the quality improvement are put into practice and supervised for their efficiency.

Teaching and learning activities focused on students Teaching and learning focused on students: refers to learning not to teaching; teacher’s role is to coordinate learning; she/he has the role to teach students to understand the way they learn; she/he offers learning opportunities to individuals in an environment that helps them learn best; she/he determines students to assume the responsibility of their own education. Thus the desire to stimulate changing and to reappraise teacher’s role is ascertained. So, changes occur not only referring to teacher’s role but also changes that impose a new vision regarding teaching-learning environment.  The main tendencies as part of the teacher’s role modifications are as follows:  in class teachers become more like the organizers of the teaching

  • learning environment and those who facilitate the teaching-

learning processes than the information transmitters.  they have to use, among others, the information and communication technology  in class they work more like members of a teachers team responsible of the same student, and not individually joining his/ her contribution to that of the team  considering that school will function more and more as an open cooperating environment, they will no longer work solely with the institution personnel, but will have to cooperate with community members, firstly with parents and colleagues from

  • ther schools and from abroad.

Euro European ean Proje Projects ts

1. EXPLORING EUROPE: BELGIUM & ROMANIA Linguistic Comenius Project http://www.ctt.ro/ comenius/index/

Our project is developed on three levels: linguistic; technical; social. The aim is to improve the students knowledge of foreign languages (English) and to get some survival knowledge of a new language (flemish and romanian) to become aware

  • f the importance of

communication between different and unknown cultures. To realize the second (technical) aim we were compare in detail the technical requirements for passenges cars (safety and eviromental). For the social level we will follow a car mechanic in detail for one week during work and after work. We will specifically investigate the kind of work he/she does, work conditions, wages, job satisfaction, stress level, degree of specialization, possibilities for further education. Both schools will compare these aspects and make together a web page and a CDROM in English. The project also involves two weeks students exchange, during which the students will get to know eachother and their respective culture. We aim to do this through social cultural and educational activities which will be

  • rganized

The expected impact of the project was to get know eachother, to create intercultural awarness, to create a European conscience, to prepare students for future European citizenship.

PH PHARE ARE Phare TVET RO 2006/ 018-147.04.01.02.01.03.01. Technical and Vocational Education and Training modernization Project The human capital development in Romania through the initial technical and vocational education and training (TVET) modernization was an important priority for the Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation in the last years. An important support to reach the modernization goals was provided by EC through pre- accession founds. Two Phare TVET multi-annual programmes (2001-2003 and 2004- 2006) were implemented in the last five years in order to continue the reform process started with the Phare VET RO 9405. The main aim of the Phare TVET projects was to ensure a system of initial vocational education and training capable to provide to young generation better chances for employment on a free European labor market, in order to contribute to the economic and social development of Romania and to create opportunities for lifelong learning. The Phare TVET 2004-2006 programme was also meant to ensure a holistic approach and to strengthen the articulation between the technical and vocational schools and higher education (HE) in the perspective of lifelong learning. TVET and HE have a key role in the process of social and economic development in Romania through the way they react and contribute to the challenges of a knowledge-based society as well as to the globalization process, in particular during the actual economic crisis. In order for the Romanian TVET and HE system to be able to play this major role, the system itself is undergoing fundamental changes.
