  2. Beyond 2020 The current Education Sector Strategic Plan (ESSP) ends in 2020. The Ministry of Education is leading the co-construction of a new plan. This is our opportunity, as locally elected boards, to represent local perspectives and community voice as we work towards a new vision for education that will form the basis for a Provincial Education Plan and set a course for the sector from 2020 to 2030.

  4. SSBA and Board Engagements • The SSBA formed an Education Visioning Working Advisory Group (WAG) to lead and support boards. • A package to support engagements has been distributed to all boards. • School board led engagements have already begun at the local level and are expected to conclude by May 31, 2019. • We encourage all trustees to leverage existing opportunities, to engage and have conversations about the future of education in your communities and with your staff.

  5. The Questions 1. What knowledge, skills and abilities do students need to be prepared for their future life and learning? Why are these important? 2. What gets in the way of student success and well- being? 3. What is working well now in Saskatchewan’s school system that prepares students for their future? 4. What needs to change in Saskatchewan’s school system to better prepare students for their future?

The survey results will allow for reporting by school division (if participants selected a division).

  7. Next Steps • By May 31 – following the board engagement sessions, all boards are encouraged to summarize what was heard in to themes and then submit all summaries to the SSBA. • Based on all the submissions the SSBA will prepare a report on behalf of school boards to be submitted to the Minister of Education in the fall. • A Provincial Education Plan (Planning Team) will co- construct the framework for the Plan. • The Minister and Cabinet to approve the Plan.
