Aspirations for the Fall

We will prioritize safely returning students to in-person learning through strict health & safety

  • requirements. At the same time, we

will ensure that remote learning provides opportunity and equity for student learning experiences across the district. Through in-person and remote opportunities, we will focus

  • n closing academic gaps and

supporting the social-emotional needs of our students.

Core Values Driving the Plan

The following core values and beliefs have been established from feedback gleaned from the roundtable discussions, various forms of staff feedback, and align to the MPS DRAFT Strategic Plan. These values are driving our reopening plans:

Safety Consistency Equity

5 Key Challenges

  • 1. Public health challenge
  • 2. Lack of agreement
  • 3. Lack of time
  • 4. Decisions will be scrutinized
  • 5. Shifting circumstances

Process for Developing a Plan

This process will require flexibility and an open mind. Given the divergent opinions on how society approaches the pandemic, and considering the countless challenges associated with reopening schools, this planning process will be extremely complex. While there is no perfect plan, through collaborative work we can achieve a plan that covers critical needs for our students and staff. This work is fluid in nature and will require us all to be innovative and agile. Leading a coherent and collaborative process, a steering committee will be created to establish a vision and guide this work. Initially, this committee will be composed of district leaders and Workgroup facilitators. Soon after the forming and norming process is started, community stakeholders will be onboarded to the Workgroups and to limited membership on the steering committee itself. The steering committee will meet weekly to review relevant updates from DESE, discuss updates to medical guidelines and share updates from each of the Workgroups. Each Workgroup will meet at least once a week to discuss updates from the steering committee and to continue the work relevant to each specific group.
