What is SEL?

Social Emotional Learning….. Over the last 30 years, a large body of work has shown that children who are skilled at recognizing feelings, dealing with conflict, and exercising self-control are more likely than peers to succeed in school and to do well in life. And educators are paying increasing attention to social-emotional skill building. (https://www.gse.harvard.edu/news/uk/15/08/kernels-learning)

What do we do in the classroom?

  • Track children on the SEL continuum twice a year
  • Analyze the results and make decisions about which skills need to be

taught and have a stronger focus

  • SEL lessons taught through our day to day teaching, in PDHPE subject

area and specifically with lessons

  • Sometimes programs developed for a group for a short period of time to

solve an issue.
