The quality of instructional materials in our classrooms has a large impact on student learning.

“There is strong evidence that the choice of instructional materials has large effects on student learning – effects that rival in size those that are associated with differences in teacher effectiveness.”

Maintaining Growth Requires Continued Investment

Over the last two school years, we have made strategic decisions that have positively impacted high school literacy:

  • Extensive revisions to the district curriculum maps
  • Providing high-quality, standards-aligned instruction in grades

6-8, allowing students to enter high school with knowledge and strategies not seen before. To provide equity for high school literacy teachers, we want to continue to provide the same level of support with instructional materials for 9-12 that we are providing for 6-8.

LearnZillion Supports Effective Instruction

Standards-Aligned Resources:

  • LearnZillion is a digital platform that translates high-quality,

standards-aligned curriculum to unpacked, scaffolded lessons for teachers.

  • The unit materials include teaching notes, lesson slides,

quality work samples, student guidebooks, and unit readers.

  • The supplement to our curriculum ensures that students are

engaging with complex text, supported by rigorous, yet intentional questions and tasks.

The curriculum units cannot be accessed or purchased individually, effective July 2018.

The NEW LearnZillion Platform provides more resources and the ability to customize components:

  • LearnZillion slides and teaching notes can now be modified to

fit the needs of SCS students.

  • SCS curriculum writers are able to add in units to create a

universal access for teachers.

  • Teacher logins grant access to assessment resources that can

be assigned to students.

  • Student logins allow students to practice reading and

answering English questions in an online environment.

  • Both the teacher logins and student logins grant access to

digital libraries.

Printed Materials from XanEdu Save Time for Teachers XanEdu is an educational publisher that is the sole source of printed student materials from Louisiana Believes.

  • Students:

– Individual copies of required texts and work sheets. These materials align with lesson plans and instructional components and allow students to annotate and highlight during the lesson.

  • Teachers:

– Individual copies of all grade level student materials that align with lesson plans and instructional components. These printed materials allow Teachers to annotate and highlight while preparing for the lesson.

ESSA

Curriculum Associates conducted comprehensive research that provides evidence that i-Ready Instruction meets criteria for ESSA Level 3: Promising Evidence, with favorable effects. The study demonstrated that students who use i-Ready Instruction experienced greater learning gains than students who did not use the program.
